: Fog lights
wanaDmax 01-05-2008, 08:33 PM Soo, on my suburban, my fog lights arent working. We barely use them. i dont know if we have even used them. Supposedly from the book, it says a little light on the switch will come on when there on. well, my light doesnt even come on. The fuse is good.
I've tried while driving, and with the low beams on.... any thoughts?
Bad switch maybe, can you pull out the switch see if power going in an out of switch
wanaDmax 01-06-2008, 03:26 AM would i have to dismantle the dash for that?
mikek996 01-06-2008, 04:11 PM only the ip trim plate. theres no screws just pulls off with clips lower the tilt all the way down and it slips out. switch isnt bolted in either it snaps in to place. I would check fuses first
wanaDmax 01-06-2008, 04:45 PM The fuse is good.
Okay, ill give it a look. how would i know if the switch is bad?
mikek996 01-06-2008, 07:17 PM I looked up the diagnostics for the fog lamps, you kinda need a scan tool to command them on then check the status of them on the data list. they are controlled by the bcm. the best way to test it might be to get access to the bcm,its under the dash on the drivers side. then you would need to backprobe terminal A7 connector C2 to ground and see if they lite up. conn C2 is light blue and terminal A7 would have dark green wire with a white tracer A6 is an empty space and A8 is dark green. to test the switch you could use an ohm meter between terminals B and C (orange and purple wires) when switch is pushed you should have continuity. maybe I can pm the scematic to you.
wanaDmax 01-06-2008, 11:35 PM Thanks for your help guys, but i think im getting over my head in this. (i can fill up gas, and thats bout it).
ill just take it to the dealer and add it to the maint list. keep chev going n all.
Duromax04 01-07-2008, 02:23 AM The fog lights won't work if you have your high beams on. Be sure they are not on when you are checking them.
wanaDmax 01-07-2008, 02:25 AM i know, and they were off.
ducmons 01-07-2008, 07:58 PM unhook the switch and tap the two wires together and see the lights come on, if they do, you're switch is bad.
ChevDiesel 02-07-2008, 02:23 PM wanaDmax,
What year is your Suburban? My '02 Silverado has the same problem, and I've already verified the basics aren't to blame (fuse, relay, bulbs, brights). I suspect the switch may have gone bad, but I wanted to get my hands on the schematics before I forked over the $40 for a replacment switch.
wanaDmax 02-07-2008, 05:58 PM its an 01.
I have to wait for a good time to take it apart. but im thinking, it might be just worth it to take it to the dealer. because the owner of the burb might not bee too happy if i take it apart..
matt4270 02-13-2008, 12:41 PM Those stock foglights are crap anyway! As soon as you get finished fixing the switch, the plastic lens cover will fall off when your driving, like on my 2500hd, and on my girlfriend's suburban(BOTH!). I'm going to replace them with a pair of Hella ff's that should fit into the original opening!
wanaDmax 02-13-2008, 06:00 PM Well, WHEN they do break i will replace them. My dads strict about changing things. I had to debate for about 20 minutes just to get him to replace the bald Highway tires with On/Off road tires.
We dont use the fogs that much anyways, well, maybe cause the switch dont work. But if we use them more and like them, and they break, well upgrade them.
**NOOB QUESTION** Do fog lights help you see the lines on the freeway while its raining? like, when your behind a car, does it cut through the tire mist?
matt4270 02-14-2008, 05:29 PM With REAL quality, amber lens foglights(like hella or piaa) it does. It also makes you much more visible to others in the rain. When I replace mine, I'm going to driving lights to supliment the sucky factory headlights. Factory fogs don't do much, mostly for looks!
ockgator 02-18-2008, 01:43 AM They're real good for pissing off drivers in little cars. The drivers aren't fond of lifted truck head and fog lights on at same time.... Too bad for them.
