Hi Guys,

I need some help here. My Uncles truck ( 1999 GMC 2500 SB CC , 5.7 Vortec. ) cranks over for sometime before it starts. They had the fuel filter changed, because their dealer mechanic thought it might have been that, but it wasnt.

What else could be wrong? Any Ideas? It seems to start the best first thing in the morning when it is cold .............. still cranks over alot first, but not as bad as when it is warm!! And when it is warm, it cranks over alot more before starting. The truck has approx 140,000 miles ( 190, 000km ) on it now.

Thanks in advance

Will

It might be the fuel pump or fuel injection system (computer). I would have all that stuff checked and then go from there. Just my opinion..

If it starts decent cold, but not warm, I would be looking at the fuel pressure regulator....

I would also check to see if the fuel pump is coming on for a few seconds when you first turn on the key. there is a relay that primes the fuel system to make it start faster and then once it starts the oil pressure switch turns on the puel pump. that would be My guess because when it is cold the oil pressure will be higher and turn on the pump sooner than when the oil is warm.

You will need to check the fuel pressure, most likely it is the fuel pump. We do several per day for concerns like yours.

I recommend putting in an AC pump. Some of the pumps the parts stores sell are junk. They will warranty them when they drop dead in 6 months, but you get the joy of changing them over and over....
