I just did my first tow with my new 2008 D/A dually. Going down the Cuesta grade on 101 by San Louis Obispo my Ally downshifted to maintain 55 mph and the tac jumped to 3500 rpm. This is my first diesel and I was concerned if this is over reving the engine. On my 8.1 this was nothing, but again this is my first diesel. I might add that I love the way this thing pulls. Thanks for your response.

The trans will never let you over rev the motor. Even in Manual mode.
Going down hill, grade braking, it might rev up to 4500..... and it perfectly fine.
Under power, it will never go over about 3200 rpms...

The engine can be down shifted and run up to 4500 rpm to help slow the truck. No problem.

Normal operation.
Not to derail, but does anyone else dislike the upshift points in tow/haul??? Ah, well.
