It should be, just reading the article it says that GM is still keeping its plans for a new diesel
Man, thats total bull$hit that "the market isnt right for a V8" My parents have owned 8 vehicles in the time i have known them. They currently have 4 now (keep in mind that this is stepparents too). They have owned 4 V8s out of those 8, and they currently own 2 V8s out of the 4 that they drive. The General probably just chickened out with the $3 million at stake. It doesn't make me feel good to say it, but i think they did.

It will be... Emissions would be the only thing to stop it and they are already planned out through that current year. It's a go.
This is probable part of the Navistar taking over the big truck line. They don't want GM Gasoline motors they wany diesels. This also makes room for an expansion of the diesel production where they need to get going fast. Gasoline engines are history, who wants a hungry gasser when you can have a kick-___ diesel. Glad to see GM is waking up as Toyota is knocking at their door with Honda right behind them.

Im pretty sure the V8 that they are talking about was the new Ultra V8 that was going to replace the Northstar V8s. I read that new story over on GmInsidenews the other day.

It will take aot for GM to pull the plug on the new 4.5 diesel as I am sure they are counting on using it in several different vehicles (probably more now) since the Fed announced CAFE ratings have to inprove to an average of 35 mpg. This motor and the new Caddy diesel (which will also find its way into more cars IMO) will definately help the average fuel economy.
I think diesels are going to start catching on. Plus there are more biodiesel plants being built right now. If biodiesel gets big enough it may start to drop the oil price. Even with all the new hybrid technolgy diesel still has the most power and a renuable resource for the fuel. In my opinion diesel engines will be around a long time even though most cars and light trucks switch to the fuel cell tech.

For anyone who wants to read it here is the article that stanford1621 is talking about. The diesel manufacturer is VM Motori S.p.A.

GM needs to make the 4.5 capable of using any percentage of biodiesel not just the B5 mix. That would help sell it especially to those who are already making bio for their other vehicles. Just my thought.

DOHC Chevy V-8? Sounds a lot like the 4.6/5.4 DOHC Ford motors. They still suck a ton of gas and are heavy. Strange that Ford beat them to the punch on a modern generation v-8 though. I guess the SBF just couldn't compare with a SBC in post 1995 emission market. :)
