Can anyone tell me the procedure to change a serpentine belt? I have a 4000 mile trip coming up and want to do it. Any pictures? Thanks.

Its not difficult ~ you should have the routing layout decal on the fan shroud. Study it, and the actual routing then using a 1/2" rachette or break bar in the square hole in the belt tensioner, to relieve the tension and slip off old belt. Then reverse for the install ~ piece of cake

The pointer on the tensioner should be like the second picture with a new belt routed correctly.

The belt tensioner, is that the one that is in front of the alternator?

Directly below it and to the left as looking at the front of the engine.

Why change it? They are good for 100k miles. In almost 400k miles I have only changed it twice & never because one broke. Well, one did break when the idler pulley froze up. The other one started looking a little strained at 126k.

I just changed mine this morning. It took 10 minutes, easiest serpentine I ever changed and I have dual alts and a vacuum pump. It makes it a lot easier to have someone hold the tensioner while you put the new one on. I also used the fan to my advantage. To get it around the balancer, I laid it over one of the blades and rotated it. I worked it on around everything and put it on the right alt last...
