I bought a 2000 Topkick with a lot of miles on it. I want to use it as a farm truck. I think (not sure - too much snow right now to be sure) it has a parking brake on the tailshaft of the auto trans that is not hooked up to anything. I am thinking that I will connect it to a lever and cable since it appears to work. Also the transmission does not lock when in park. I think it once must have been hooked to this brake. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks.

Jim--
The Park Brake is called the "J-71 Auto-Park Brake"..
does your truck have a yellow button for the brake, somewhere on the dash??

Gas or diesel? Allison auto?
Most gas motor sticks I've seen have the pull up lever where a foot pedal park brake would be.
Allison auto's don't have a park position. The allison would have a pushbutton shifter. F/N/R in a square box on the left side of the dash by the door.

If you can post up the last 8 of the vin, I can lookup what it came with from the factory.

What else can you do?
I wanna add heated mirrors to an '07 along with power window and power lock. Will a VIN number tell if the 6H is upratable. I made sure to get the 3500 series allison. My med duty dealers here are uneducated:mad:.

I'll try to help all I can.
But to be honest we've only been a GM medium duty dealer for the past year. To me thier whole parts system is a pain in the @$$. But then an old Gm parts guy would prob get lost in our system. Now if you have Peterbilt questions no prob, I've been doin Pete parts for the past 11 years.
