: Crew Cab Rear seats NNBS compared to OBS
isracing 01-03-2008, 02:00 PM Am I the only one who thinks this or is the fold up rear seat in the New Body crew cabs the WORST DESIGN ever made by GM... I had an 05 HD CC and when you flip the seats forward and down you have a WIDE flat surface to put stuff, plus the entire width of the door opening to get it in!! I tried to put some boxes in the back seat and with the seat folded up I get about 1/2 to 2/3rd the door opening to actually get the damn stuff in..... GM could have done a better job for rear storage space since people are going to have stuff that needs to go inside as opposed to in the bed!
SteelMastiff 01-03-2008, 05:28 PM I have to agree with you on this; the obs was also nice for taken a nap if need be... I just put down a piece of foam and was really comfy... I am to large to just sleep on the back seat!

AMEN!!!! I have used the back of my 05 several times to "take naps" ;) if ya get my drift... lol (I'm younger and unmarried hint hint) LOL

That boy must have hydrolics on that truck, it's really bouncing while he's supposed to be asleep.
Jasondt2001 01-03-2008, 08:53 PM I TOTALLY AGREE, that was one of my biggest turn offs of the NBS trucks. When folded down you had a big table and things were easy to manuever on my classic. The new ones take alot of valueable space and some manuevering to get stuff in there.
The nice thing about it is not have to move your seat up in the NBS truck when the seats are folded down.
cowboy56 01-05-2008, 08:24 PM The rear seats folding up in the NBS was one of the things that i really liked. With my last truck if you wanted to haul anything in the back seat I would have to move the front seat up like 6 inches. Not very fun drivin with your knees in your face. The new ones are so much easier to use. Just pull em up. The old ones you had to pull the bottom strap then get the front seat far enough forward then hope you didn't have to pull the back seat headrests off, and if you did go find a paper clip or something to stick in the headrest hole. Ford and dodge are the same as the NBS.
jim87vette 01-05-2008, 10:03 PM SO if they could make it an either/or that would be perfect !
Kenafin_02TA 01-05-2008, 10:15 PM I can understand where people liked the old style better and in a lot of cases it would be better but for what I use the back seat for the new style definitely works better for me. I often haul a motorcycle/atv ramp in the back of the cab. The ramp is floor to ceiling height and door to door width (ramp is folded in half and lays on its side). I couldn't put this ramp in there with the older style seats - it just wouldn't fit. The ramp goes in the cab because if the motorcycle is in the bed the ramp won't fit safely without taking it apart. I don't want to have to take apart and put together the ramp just to load and unload the motorcycle.
I also have my two dogs in the back of the cab a lot (105lbs and 120lbs) Yeah they can stand on the flat seat surface but that means I get their big heads in my rear-view mirrow and they're leaning their heads up front and are right in my face. At least with them standing on the floor they can barely bother me. The worst I get is a head under my arm.
I have run into the lack of space between the door and the seat but it was only once when I was trying to load a large airline dog crate. Overall though I much prefer the new style to the old.
Dragon 01-09-2008, 07:48 PM I've been looking at the way the NBS seats fold up and I think I'm going to try to mod it so the seats will fold up OR down.....I'll let you guys know what happens but it may be awhile before I actually get around to it.
mathiahs 01-09-2008, 09:28 PM that sounds like a great idea, dragon. the rear seat folding issue is the biggest complaint i have with my new truck. so i guess it's not all bad then....
Petr51488 01-10-2008, 12:27 PM These seats can only fold up right? Not the back part down? Or can they do both?
isracing 01-10-2008, 12:56 PM Thats right, only up... And what sucks even more is you lose that storage space behind the rear seat, I used to keep my unbrella, jumper cables, and some other nick nacks back there... now under the rear seat all they do is lunge forward when I hit the brakes hard! I looked and it seems like it'd be big trouble getting that rear to flip down since thats what carries the load with the 'hook & loop' steel leg that hooks to that back wall
Dragon 01-17-2008, 09:33 PM You can see behind the rear seat and tell there's alot of usable space back there.
This is kind of hard to explain but if you'll look at the bar on the back of the cab holding the seat back and raise and lower the seat bottom a couple of times you can see how the catch on the seat back slides up and down behind the bar so I know there's a way to change it so it will slide into the bar and lock when the seat bottom is down and release when you raise the seat bottom.
I've not looked at it again but I'm pretty sure there's enough travel in the slide for it to come loose when the seat bottom is raised, just have to take the seat off and turn the catch on the back of the seat upside down (maybe have to cut some off the catch) so it'll come out when the seat is raised to a certain point, then the rear of the seat will fall forward.
I'll try to look at it again tomorrow and measure the travel distance of the catch to see how much cutting would be required.
phxlab 02-03-2008, 04:31 AM I posted this under another thread before I saw this. I would be interested in an either/or option for the folding seats. also.
I have an 04 crew cab. When I fold down the rear seats, it makes a nice flat area for my 2 Black Lab dogs.
The 08 seats fold up, leaving an area open to the floor. This makes it impossible for the dogs to see out of, or get their heads out of the windows This must be what everyone wants, but I need something like the 04. This is the only thing keeping me from getting an 08 now, until I figure out an option. Any ideas?
Thanks
Oldforestor 02-04-2008, 08:25 AM Could you put a pre 08 rear seat system back there?
isracing 02-04-2008, 03:09 PM Could you put a pre 08 rear seat system back there?
Probably be hard to do since the Classic rear seat is bolted to the floor... contour of the floor might not be the same, I'm sure anything is possible tho
