Clyde (SoCalDieselTech) had pity on my poor daily driver today and got me back on the road fast. Two bad injectors replaced while I waited.
I had brought the truck to Victor GMC in Corona when it threw a CEL with a P0301 Cyl #1 Misfire, and they called to tell me it was my fuel filter. Uh, they replaced it themselves 2 days earlier when I took it in for some minor warranty work. Then they told me it would take a few days to do a compression test, then if the compression was OK, then they would order an injector. Sounded like they would have my truck a long time, and I wasn't too confident that they were going about the problem the right way. The truck ran pretty smooth (except sometimes at idle), and had plenty of power. I doubted the compression was to blame.
So I gave Clyde a visit today. Clyde did the diagnosis, R&R, quickly and professionally. :ro) He swings a mean TechII! Looks like he's playing a video game, his fingers moved so fast.
He showed me some interesting stuff too! An airfilter had gotten so dirty on a Dmax, that it tried to suck it through the airbox. It actually destroyed the metal mesh in the airfilter and hosed the impeller on the turbo.
After seeing that, he pulled my Fram airfilter out, and while it was only 5k old, it was starting to disintegrate. No more Frams for me.
He also showed me both a LLY and a LB7 injector tip. Way different. Pics are coming. Yes, those holes are SMALL. The LLY tip dia is much smaller than the LB7.
