It appears to me the predator and Edge provide about the same Hp & TQ plus or minus 20, on respective levels.

Does one out perform the other in reality?

Edge is definately the way to go! You can buy it with the attitude and then you have your gauges already. I love my egde.

You can kick this subject around till you are blue in the face. Do your homework . Both have different features that may be better suited for you.

And do your homework on what works on your engine.....whats good for a LB7 may not be good for the LLY!

Yes, both have different features etc. The one key difference is that the Predator is solely software based once installed and the Edge relies on external hardware. We very seldom see a warranty return on a software based unit.

Both systems can be set up the same way. both guages ect.

what I am wondering is who has driven both systems. What if any are the differences from a performance stand point.

I into an upgrade for towing performance, I will be towing 13K with the truck and want to be able to have the power to go down the road like I currently do with my 24v. Cummins w/ banks, 4" exhuast, DTT 91% TC & VB,

I see a lot guys claiming the edge is the way to go and a few guys liking the predator.

SO are there any performance differences other than mileage any body can testify to?

Just take your pick, buy either one, use it awhile, then you'll probably buy the other one and stack it, its kinda the way it works, the best of both worlds.

The Edge can be set up so that it is much more responsive at low boost levels and lesser pedal positions. This can help when towing, but also can smoke more. The other one not mentioned here is the Van Aaken. Assuming LB7, this is also an excellent choice.

Use both!!! I run my edge on level 4 for the predator on the 65 tune. Easy driving, simple gauges and reads codes. It is definatly the way to go.

Is your tranny happy about this? :) I'm running the Predator with th 65hp tune now and might jump up a little to see how the tranny handles it before trying the Edge. I'll probably end up adding a new transmission to be list of mods and then stack them.

not sure if youre talking about LB7 or LLY - but ive driven with both extensively on my LLY and the predator is better - the only thing i dont like is the defuel which could be better but other than that is much better than edge IMHO, no waiting for power, tows better, runs smoother, shifts better, just better all around IMO

I was in the process of obtaining quotes to have gauges installed on my LLY and purchase the Predator. Turns out the gauge package to monitor EGT, boost and engine temps was running me around $700 installed. I can get the E/J with attitude for $650, then have the best of both worlds.

Next will be water injection to lower EGT's, increase hp/tq somemo', and better engine lubrication. Plus I can stay with my stock exhaust. Just got to take care of my Ally. I'm learning! JJ ):h

JJ, get another quote, you should be able to get a dual guage set up for EGT / BOOST for $400-500 installed, add $375 for the predator and youre close to the same price as for edge/attitude. and the best thing is that you dont have to count on the attitude for the gauges if you want to run something else or nothing at all, its very nice that way !!

I would agree with Tbone. If you are talking LLY, the Predator is better than the Edge, IMO.

Tbone or Mcrat: I know this has been discussed but could you please explain what you like better about the predator over the edge. Thank you.

pretty much everything except for the defuel which isnt terrible but could be better. it feels like it has more power, drives smoother, shifts better, can scan for codes, check diagnostics, remove speed limiter, change gears and tire size - and you dont have to wait til 180* to get power - pretty much better all around IMO, and the pricing is almost the same if you factor in gauges which i prefer over the attitude

Installed Predator today on my LLY and I agree! Seams a little smoother than the Quadzilla also.

Sea Wizard, what do you have, an LB7 or an LLY ? You've got people guessing about how to help you. Kennedy's right, if you have an LB7 you should look at the VA, much better than the others. And yes I've tried them all.

tbone states: JJ, get another quote, you should be able to get a dual guage set up for EGT / BOOST for $400-500 installed, add $375 for the predator and youre close to the same price as for edge/attitude.

But for $150 more I get all the benefits/features of the E/J, tranny protection, and EGT backdown if Mama JJ can't keep her foot out of the pedal when pulling the 5ver! I figure I can always stack the Predator later if I want more power, but I pretty much just want a good tow tune and the E/J with attitude gives me gauges, tranny protection, and additional power all in one.

Make sense? JJ :)

There is no reason a good pyrometer and boost gauge set up on an a- pilar should run any more than $400 installed. I know someone in North Carolina who can do it for $350 installed. I know thats far from you but maybe you travel up that way sometime...let me know..I can give ya contact info.

dpower, even if I get the gauges in for $400 then add the Predator for $375-$400 I'm still around $800 with no tranny protection or EGT backdown protection. I'm not looking to race with the EJ/A, just get more hp/tq to the wheels for towing and have the ability to monitor EGT's, boost, etc. The EJ/A offers all this for $675. I'm figuring I can always stack later if needed.

Guys are posting good results with the E/Jw/a, those racing aren't getting out of the hole very fast though. Thanks for the input. I learn something new everytime I engage in one of these discussions. JJ :)

I just put the predator in my truck and it was a perfect fit for my truck and my needs:D . This is an LB7 and I tried both the edge and the predator, with the predator winning the race. It has instant response and no upload problems. My recommendation is the predator. This is coming from someone who is very new to the diesel performance arena. Good Luck.

I now have an Edge w/o attitude v 4.61 for sale $350 shipped to the front door. Let me know it is going on ebay Monday paypal is accepted.
