I have a 2001 crew cab 4x4 dually and when I take off the rear end shutters. It just started doing it a couple of month's ago when pulling a trailer and its also doing it without. Is this common for a dually or is there something else I need to check.

Hanger bearing and/or u-joints

Hanger bearing and/or u-jointsI think all long beds with a two piece drive shaft will suffer the stutter. At least my 04.5 2500HD LLY, CC, LB with 13000 miles has suffered with it since new, even when loaded, or towing.

At anytime, when the rear wheel traction is not prefect I will get the stutter and wheel hop. The only way out is to shift into four-wheel drive to get the truck moving

I would check the center bearing/mount assembly on the driveshaft also (as suggested previously)

I don't have any stutter/shudder (or whatever you call it) on my dually.

**Problems that develop are usually wear issues, problems that have always existed are more likely design flaws.
