USE NEW BOLTS!

Then, initially torque the bolts to 58 ft/lbs
Next pass, 60 degrees
then, 60 degrees again..

Apparently, there is a holder for the flywheel (remove starter, holder goes in place of said starter)

Good luck rat!

Confirm final torque is 266lb-ft. Use tool J44643 to hold flywheel.

kit installed by Eric 3500$ while I eat pizza and watch him get dirty

stage 3 kit 2500$ or so while I get dirty and almost sqush a friend with my trans and later lay on my back in a pool of atf and kitty litter +200$ in shipping the chowed converter back to SC and a new one shipped up+the price to get my converter fixed+a new flexplate at 125$, 100$ in fluid, who knows what kinda parts in the trans? its not so much the cost savings Eric, its the knowledge that I know it was done right:rolleyes:

I suppose we shall see shortly what I did or didnt do? one woulda thought if I screwed up the install it woulda blew up before 10k miles. I guess maybe I am lucky since I never woulda known about the trans untill I pulled the pan(on the long list of to do's) if it wasnt for the converter. fluid always looked fine, magnet never had anything more than a bit of grey fuzz on it, fliter never had any trash in it.

Thankfully with guys on the board here I am only slightly screwed as apposed to a seriously fCensoreded duck.

Rat, I remember you telling us about your experience of installing the SCIII, and you had some extra parts or something. Do I remember correctly? I am just curious.

Might have mad a comment about extra parts as a joke.....then again since I have chunks in my pan maybe I did have a few left overs:eek:. You dont really think I would have put my trans back into my truck with a pile of parts left on the work bench do you? Actually dont answer that;) ):h

Keep us posted in what you find in there...Too bad eric didn't find this problem when he was doing your injectors......OR wait a minute..maybe he did??!! a little sabotage, perhaps??? ):h

I know you didnt mean anything by it Eric:)

I'm actually keeping pretty positive. And even though chunks of metal arnt a good thing the fluid looked fine and wasnt sparkly and the magnet didnt have much trash on it.....well other than the the chunks of ferous metal:eek: Hopefully I caught it before really bad stuff hapened.....or I have been driving around for 10k with schrapnel in my pan:eek:

At any rate Daryl, Al, Mike, Mark, and many others here are keeping me from jumping off the nearest bridge. You guys rock:ro)

I've gotten enough of the "you shouldnt have messed with a perfectly good trans, you shoulda stayed stock, bla bla bla" -:t At least nobody here will hand me that line. I can handle razzing but stock sucks:D

I can give one peice of advice that is guaranteed to pay off for you guys. Buy stock in Budwieser, I owe a ton of people a ton of beers):h <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Phil, not to beat ya up or nothing, but could it just have been a case of simply forgetting to torque down the converter bolts that caused it? :( I know sometimes in a big project its the little things that get missed, I've done it myself many times. You have my hopes that it's not an overly expensive fix.

By the way, Tony, if it leaves a mark, it'll be a skidmark AFTER he gets it fixed!!!!!

when the the tc bolts came loose and started flying around, is it possiable that it knocked things apart in the converter?? and it just started to funnel into the pan? he did say that there were a couple of dings on the converter!

Well the preliminary report sounds like Phil will be driving a Ford for a while longer.

To bad I didn't have my camera along last night to get some pics of Phil in his "new" ride. It looked like a real sleeper. JK Phil

converter parts would have a hard time getting down to the pan.. oil passages are pretty small.
