I always thought diesels were ok to and optimally made to run at redline. Besides, the engine blocks will still be around long after we're gone, no matter how much we pound it.

Redline is there for a reason. Its a place on the rpm scale that is approaching unsafe engine rpm's. Do so at your own risk. I treat my truck like I want it to last.

I want my truck to last too but I also like to beat on her. I drive highways any where from 70 to 85, usually 2100 to 2500 rpms. Under normal driving, to the store, etc. I usually only accelerate to about 2000 maybe a hair over. Unfortunately, due to the high concentration of morons in this area, I am forced to put her to the floor for short bursts every now and again.
drive it like you stole it
