I am looking to buy a 2500hd with 140k on it. It is a 2003 regular cab 4x2. What parts if any will be worn out and need attention? And is there anything I should look for when I drive the truck?

run a vin check to see if injectors have been replaced and what else has been done, the 7yr/200k gm injector warrenty is still in effect for the 03's. 140k = 28k a year, seems a little on the high side of the average scale. Check to see if it has/had a 5th wheel hitch, it could've been used to tow. Check the t-case for a nice hole if its got the famous Pump Rub problem. Basically look it over real good.

just got the VIN check back and it says all 8 injectors have been replaced. is this good or bad?

What is the t-case hole problem??

There is no transfer case on a 2wd so no worries. Other than the injectors, front wheel bearings, and pitman and idler arms come to mind. Also, a complete fluid change and chasis lube would also be a good start.

The truck has 140k miles on it and the injector replacement was performed at 139k. thats kinda scares me.

It does have the 200K warranty on the injectors, other than that, it looks like a clean bill of health. If you are nervous, find another truck, but if the price is right snap it up.

when injectors go bad do they harm the internals of the motor? such as not making it last as long as it should? or is injector failure pretty common?

another question i have is the first injector replacement of all 8 would Chevy have installed the updated injectors? then the second replacement performaned looks like just 1 injector correct?

Injector failure of 01-04 LB7 models seems to be very common, as a result GM changed the location of the injectors from under the valve cover to through the valve cover on the LLY and up trucks and provided a 7 year/200K warranty on the 01-04 trucks. The injectors from my understanding are not updated units just reman units of the same type. Here is a good read about problems, or lack of associated with injectors going bad.

Dont worry about the injectors man they are still covered under warranty

yes but if the truck is eating injectors for some reason that would be no good. having all 8 replaced then another one replaced 10k later is scary.

If it's got you that worked up, find another truck. LLY's overheat, and LBZ's crack pistons so take your pick...:)

true, but it looks to me like he had all 8 replaced under warrenty at 127k and then at 139k one went bad b/c the Tech messed something up and it was replaced free to the owner. As a result the owner was upset b/c the truck sat for three days while the injectors were replaced (127k) and then 12k later another injector problem arouse, so he decided to get rid of it b/c he's fed up with the way the truck was performing because the Tech messed up.

Thats my guess, and thats probably what I'd do if i were the previous owner.

i am going to go look at it in person tomorrow. i am going to run the VIN thru public data and see if i can track down the previous owner to see why he got rid of it. they only want 12k for it.

good price or no?

My buddy just bought an 03 single cab dmax with 118K on it for 15K so 12 is a smoking deal.

For 12k I'd buy it! I'm currently looking at a cc sb 4x4 122k 2001 Fully Loaded for 21k. injectors at 86k.

I'm not familiar with the Dmax injector problem except what I read in the forum. But when injectors go bad, I understand they tend to dump fuel into the motor oil? And if that is fact, could the oil have been diluted with fuel long enough to cause serious damage to bearings, pistons, cam, lifters, etc?
Just something to think about. Personally, I think I would pass on a Dmax trade in that had injector problems, unless of course, I personally knew the previous owner very well, and knew that he caught the fuel smelling motor oil right away.

A lot of LB7's have had injectors replaced. If anyone cares about thier expensive diesel they will catch the injectors soon enough, plus the duramax is hard to start when the injectors get really bad. Its under warrenty thanks to GM, 7yr/200k. I'm not worried at all about buying one which had the injectors replaced. They all will have the injectors replaced sometime in the life of the truck.

is a half second delay when starting tell you anything? i just went a drove the truck again today and the dash lighted dimmed and then cranked in about a half second. i have never noticed this in my 04 3500 then again i have never started it in cold weather. it was freezing last night and the truck had not been run since i drove it on wednesday.
