So I was STUPID today and ran my 5500 duramax out of fuel. I have yet to get the running lights straightened out and the guage cluster is not lit.

First off the fuel filter is BURIED on the 5500 behind and below the steering shaft and the intercooler line. Secondly the stupid bleeder screw is a screw and actually takes a screwdriver, how friggin stupid not to have a valve. Thirdly it is plastic and was put in by a gorrilla and quickly stripped the blade screw out. Luckily I pumped the purge while I cranked the engine and it worked (used my remote starterhttp://www.snowplowing-contractors.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif )

What a PIA.

Is this (http://www.lubricationspecialistllc.com/product_info.php?cPath=14&products_id=157) what you want?

for referance, you can remove the vent plug with a 13mm deep well socket and a stubby ratchet. still a PITA to get too , but easier than trying to fumble a screw driver in there.

I do wonder WTF they were thinking when they designed/ mounted the filter there.

Just wait till you replace the filter!! Disconnecting the WIF is a REAL TREAT !!
