Any updates on parts stores that carry Dex VI? I want to change my trans fluid and want to avoid dealer cost. Can't seem to find it anywhere local but there's a number of parts stores I haven't checked yet. 8 qts for just drain the pan and replace the spin on?

TIA,
Mike

I've seen it at NAPA store, shucks, krager, Knechts, Pep boys. All of them seem to have it starting about 3 months ago.

here locally autozone has Dexron VI Castrol for 5.99 qt plus 1.00 rebate and Oreillys has Synthetic Valvoline Dexron VI for 6.99 a qt. My local Carquest has the GM vehicle care by the gallon.

Yes, Transynd can be used in allisons that come from GM with Dextron III or Dexron VI. In fact, change intervals with transynd are much longer than with either Dex III or Dex VI. Transynd meets Dex III requirements. There is some debate on the forum if transynd is Dex certified to meet Dex VI requirements for warranty. Since Allison says transynd is Ok, and even preferred, I don't see why GM would deny a warranty claim if you used transynd.

Be careful though according to Allison, Dex VI is NOT to be used with earlier Allison 1000's. basically allison 1000 built before about 06. In those transmission you need to use either Dex III or Transyn.

Well in the manual to my NBS LMM, GM recommends Transynd as an alternative to Dex VI in cold climates so they aren't going to invalidate your transmission warranty if you use a TES 295 fluid (Transynd) instead of Dex VI.

Thank's for the info, tried to get some official reference from Allison, and never got it. Asking local chevy dealer is like pulling teeth. I just want to use synthetic and not void warrenty. I do have a 2006 lbz with the six speed allison. Thanks again.

sowilson - you say that your new manual specifically states "TranSynd" is an alternative? That's GREAT to hear. In my 2006 manual, there is no mention of alternatives. What page in your manual? I'd like to get a copy for reference.

The latest "Getting to know your Allison Transmission and Duramax Diesel" is posted on the Allison Transmission website. See the last page for Cold Weather Operation.
