My truck doesn't have a switch on the dash to turn off the passenger side air bag. Is there any way to do this without cutting wires, or is there a switch hidden somewhere?

The passenger seat senses weight and enables or disables the air bag as needed. The rear view mirror will display the status of the passenger air bag.

Mine doesn't have the electric mirror. I want to turn off the bag so that my son can ride there.

I havent seen this. is it does not have passanger light on the rear view mirror it should be on the dash. I thought all 04 and newer had the system built into the seats.

IIRC, not crew cabs (see his sig)

Only the extended cabs have that. On the crew cabs you can't shut the airbag off because they expect you to put little people in the back.

Edit, TheBac beat me to it.

What if I have a whole load of little people? This kind of "safety" stuff bugs me.

I bought a switch from this company. http://www.aoielectrical.com/index.asp It is National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) approved. It was around $150 and took an hour to install. I mounted the switch in the glovebox. I first tried to get a GM switch from an extended cab but no-one could give me an absolute answer. Considering the safety implications, is it really on or off? I got the switch.

I think that sensor senses the distance the seat is from the dash. If it's the same as GM vans. They have a sensor that runs on the seat track works kind of like a wheel speed sensor.

You will need to get a waiver to install an on-off switch.

I tried to get GM to put a switch in my work van to turn off the air bag because of my kid. They don't want to mess with it because of the liability. You're better off putting the kid in the back.

The switch comes with the form. Just fill it out and away you go.

I guess the kid will stay in the back for now. I also have an 18 year old daughter that is probably too short to sit there also. I have a few more payments to make, then once this thing is paid off I can consider extras.
