I went to my allison dealer to get the suction filter. He told me that it was a life time filter. No need to change. I am getting ready to switch to transynd and was planning to change it. What do you think? I did not buy it yet because the one he had was not in the plastic and it was all dusty.

Change it. Dust won't hurt it.

no would be a good time to go to a deep pan though if you are thinking of going that wroute. gasket is reusable if you are curious. dont forget about the little rubber oring seal deal on the suction filter either. it likes to stick in the hole

I just asked this question, on this board, a few weeks ago, and the general consenus was to leave the suction filter in there, in fact leave the pan on if just changing/switching tranny fluid. Course if your changin to a deep pan then just change the filter.

You are correct but some of the guys want to change their sump filter anyways and we are only giving them some advise.

I would change it. I switched to Transynd and wanted to get as much of the old fluid out as possible. I was amazed at how much fluid came out when I removed the old suction filter. Especially since it went everywhere. The "hoot method" is great, just be prepared when you pull out the suction filter. There was probably about a half a quart of fluid that came out when I pulled it. Unfortunately, I wasn't expecting it. ):h):h):h

Hey Mike, what about your wife beaters?
I thought those were white!?! LMAO!
Just ribben ya bud
As for the pulling pan method, you'l get another qt or so of fluid out that your not gonna get just draining it. If your doing the switch, its worth the effort for best results.

wickll, I was planning on changing to the transyd. Remember seeing the Hoot method a while back but can't seem to find or remember exactly how the procedure went. Can you or anybody else stear me in the right direction? This is the greatest forum going bar none!:ro)

Mike is it a real filter or just a strainer in the pan? Later! Frank

When I changed mine over the filter that came out was mesh screen and the new one that went in was Microfelt. Almost looked like a thick weave paper. The Allison guy said thats the way the deep pan filters come now.
