With the Predator 40 or 60 hp downloads, is anyone getting near the danger limit of EGT's?

If you are going to install any type of performance mod you need guages..

Got Juice?

Towing near max GCVWR you can EXCEED 1350F
FYI The best and most heat resistant forged aluminium pistons melt at 1450F
Yes, I would get gauges without hesitation.

IMHO get a Juice and attitude combo (free gauges) keep the predator for TSL removal, diagnostics and stacking in the future.

personally: if that is all the tunes you are going to be running, i would not bother with gauges, have a few freinds running the 110 va smartbox E, it has been three years now and they have no gauges and pull, all the time with it, they have no other upgrades done, keep in mind if it is 90f and going up a 10percent grade pullink a 10k trailer, you might run into a problem, my 2 cents

Since you have a brake controller in your sig, I would assume that your towing. If that's true you should get a gauge (cheap insurance in my book).I've seen 1700 deg with the 85 tune in my truck, on a cool day (40 deg), no load, running WOT up a grade. (Just had to get around that Dodge with the horse trailer before the passing lane closed)
And that's with the 4" exhaust.

So, how did the gauge help you? Did you back out of it and let the Ram keep the lead? Thanx Geo.

The gauge flashes when It gets to my set point. That way, with out taking my eyes off the road, I know that I need to get out of it soon. Sometimes I stay on the peddle a little bit longer than I should. I checked the temp after the fact, now I know, that's how it helped.
4 more grades, only 2 more passing lanes and another 40 miles to the freeway...I left him on the hill...

JJ's .02 cents worth! There have been some issues with LLY's running hot towing. Current theory is if boost is too high under the wrong conditions it will overheat.

I'm getting ready to install the Predator 40hp tune and will be having a 3 gauge pillar setup installed at the same time to monitor EGT's, engine temps and boost. I'm doing the boost since I plan to install WI soon to lower EGT's, increase hp/tq, etc.

I would suggest you consider water injection as well. JJ :)

Does anyone know if the Predator has a screen or function that would allow you to plug into the port, in the cab, and monitor EGT's while driving?

Say, e.g, a lb7 with the 65 HP program loaded into it - If I'm hooked up, towing and leaning into it, will a Predator provide this function?

Thanks.

No - an EGT probe installed in the exhaust manifold is needed - the info is not available via the PCM.

Many thanks, Skory. I'm bouncing back and forth on which to get but that's a + for the Edge attitude.

Get gauges with any power mod.
I saw EGT's of 1,200 pulling 9,000 lbs bone stock.

i seen upto 1336 degrees on bone stock pulling over mountain grade for 3 plus minutes, with no problems, keep in mind type of gauge, probe install, location can all vary from truck to truck, i now know what temp bone stock will see, and that is considerated safe with a saftey zone built in to it, and running exhaust and intake mods, which would allow to breath eaisier, and reduce temps, it might of hit 1400 degress then

Just to make sure your clear, you will still need an EGT probe installed even on the EDGE. I may be wrong but I'm interpreting your "+ for the EDGE" as you think it can just be plugged in for the EGT guage to work. Stop me if I'm wrong.
