First of all I would like to say I am a DODGE GUY NOT GM,but this site is a whole lot better than any of Dodge Sites bar none..
Ok here it is I have a 94 6.5 in a 4x4 3500 5 speed and it will blow more black smoke than anything I have ever seen.. It runs great and has lots of Power but I got pulled over the other day in it because of all of the black smoke I mean it is really bad what needs to happen to make it go away?? The optical sensor in the IP can get messed up and send full fuel to the engine. I have had this happen two times and am on my third IP. From what I've been told, replacing the IP is the only way to fix it. My ran really good too just pumped the black smoke out like you wouldn't believe. This last time it would turn over 4200 RPM's.

Also check air and fuel filter. may even check out waste gate

If the MIL is on, you need to determine what code it's indicating.

A failed wastegate control solenoid will cause it to underboost the engine and over fuel it.

You'll also underboost it if the vacuum pump has failed or a vacuum line is disconnected, broken or cracked.

Can you get a ticket for too much black smoke??? I saw a company truck for a Tree Nursery pull in front of me and had a ridiculous amount of black smoke. I know what your talking about. I turned up my truck it smokes black ALOT:D But I was just wondering if they can give tickets because of too much smoke??? "LET THE COAL ROLL....":D

I was wondering if anyone has been stopped for alot of black smoke. When someone tailgates me I give them the smoke job. And I mean lots of smoke. Once I did that and in a half mile or so another car was on my tailgate. I looked in the mirror and there was lights on top of the car. Needless to say I didn't try to smoke the smokey out.
