For the second year now, my Allison really drops hard into drive the first time I move the shift lever into drive in the morning. It only does it one time, and will only do it when the weather is below freezing. If I go back into neutral, and then shift to drive again, it drops in smoooth. Its only the first time I use it in the am after backing down the driveway. Truck is bone stock. Anybody else experiance this?

I experience the same thing... I don't have a stock transmission either.

If it bothers you too much try synthetic fluid. I don't think it will hurt anything.

Mike..Thanks for the reply. Sounds as if its not worth being concerned about. For those that mentioned the same problem, I changed my sequence this evening, and it did not drop in hard. After starting the truck cold in the garage, I first went to drive (dropped in smooth), and then into reverse. I then backed out, and went into drive as I normally would. It went into drive smooth as normal. Seems dropping into drive before backing out helped.

Mine does the exact same thing. Suncoast III tranny on mine. I thought it was just mine but glad to see others are having the same issues.
