: More Predator Feedback
331cobra 12-28-2004, 11:13 PM I installed the Predator 40 hp tune last night.
After driving the truck for probably 100 miles today the shifting is getting alot better. Its not back to where it was stock but its alot better than last night. Still a little soft especially after the 3-4-5 shifts. Here are my impressions so far.
If you take off normal or maybe mash the throttle 1/2 way down from a stop it doesn't feel any stronger than stock....actually it feels a little sluggish, maybe its because of the soft shifts. When it was stock it seemed to pull harder right after a shift....maybe that will come back after the tranny learns some more.
Also if you are running 65-70 and mash the gas maybe 1/2 way to the floor it doesnt seem to have the instant acceleration as stock.....again, maybe its the tranny.
If you leave from a dead stop and get on it pretty hard......3/4 to full throttle you can definately tell it has more power....unfortunately I dont drive my truck that way. Hopefully the part throttle accelaration will come back.
My DIS gas mileage ratings are WAY off....it says I'm getting 30+ mpg most of the time. I have checked the DIC and its always within 1mpg when the truck was stock.
Are my results similar to everyone else's?

I'm also looking into the Predator, keep us informed.
Thanks
ajarthur 12-28-2004, 11:55 PM Yes, I'm also thinking of getting the predator soon... Thanks for the info!

madmax69 12-29-2004, 08:54 AM I'm looking forward to hearing your response also. I'm looking at getting the predator soon, and running the 40hp tune.
How many miles do you guys think I should get on the truck before installing it? I've got a lil over 1000 on it now.. I was thinking about waiting until 5K or so, is this 2 soon?
Also, has anybody checked egt's on the 40hp tune with stock exhaust? Just wondering if they are fairly normal or not.
Thanks.!
D_Maximus 12-29-2004, 09:30 AM If I'm lucky, I may be picking 1 up & installing today...
I'll let you know what (if anything) I learn :)
Dmax Tim 12-29-2004, 09:33 AM How many miles do you guys think I should get on the truck before installing it? I've got a lil over 1000 on it now.. I was thinking about waiting until 5K or so, is this 2 soon?
Some have put the power adders on in the dealer lot ):h
D_Maximus 12-29-2004, 09:43 AM If I get mine today, I'll be at about 1100 miles... ):h
JJs DuMax 12-29-2004, 10:52 AM 331cobra, did you have your truck reflashed before installing the Predator? Most of the guys posting on this thread are very happy with the Predator and having good results. Your results are 180* from what others have been posting. Sumpin's up?
I plan to have the Predator and a gauge pod installed (EGT, tranny and engine temp) installed this weekend. I found a decent shop here in the Jacksonville, Fl area named Dynotune that appears to know there stuff with these trucks. My initial discussions with a guy named David were promising. The owner has a Dodge with the Cummins that they race. If anyone has any intel on them it would be greatly appreciated. Will advise. JJ :)
331cobra 12-29-2004, 10:57 AM Well, I drove truck a little more this morning. I tried the trick where you pull the tranny down to 1st gear going 55mph....let it coast to a stop and put it in park. This is supposed to help the allison learn faster. It definately helped alot. I would say the shifting is back to 75% of how it was stock.
PA24Pilot 12-29-2004, 06:24 PM 331cobra,
I have had the predator since June of this year. I went straight to the 65HP tune and I think it is awesum. I pull a travel trailer @5k lbs, predator says you can tow up to 8k at the 65hp setting. Try it you will see a big improvement over stock. I have all of my fuel purchases recorded in an XL spreadsheet. Looking at the numbers and a graph of fuel mileage it looks like I gained about 1 MPG after installing the predator. Hard to believe, more power and better mileage too. It works.
skoryaro2 12-29-2004, 07:24 PM JJ,
Why the need to install a second tranny and engine temp gauge when you already have one??
D_Maximus 12-30-2004, 12:08 AM Thanks to the help of Kennedy:ro) , I got my Predator, installed the 65hp tune, and put 150miles on her...
Like all good relationships, it had a shakey start going thru the shifts, but it's quickly getting better, and I'm loveing the feeeeeling it brings):h
04hd_todd 12-30-2004, 12:22 AM i put the predator in my 04 4x4 and went striaght to the 120hp/240tq setting and love it. i even ran it a couple weeks ago at the drags and went 9.6et @ 76mph, 1/8th mile track. it will surprise alot of unsuspecting sedans. love it!
331cobra 12-30-2004, 12:40 AM Just got back from Memphis....I went to the Grizzly's game. Put 137 miles round trip....I filled it up to the neck before leaving and filled it up again when I got home. It held 6.3 gallons. Thats 21+ mpg, I drove 65-75 all the way with probably 10-15 stoplights. I drove very easy just to see what kind of mileage I could get. The DIC said I got 29.5 and also said I only used like 4.7 gallons. The predator really throws it off. The shifting is finally back to just what it was like stock. I love it.
madmax69 12-30-2004, 07:31 AM So 331cobra, does it feel like it did at part throttle and taking off from a stop? You orginally described it as a lil sluggish at those settings. Just wondering if it's back to at least stock power now, or does it have more.!?
Thanks.!
331cobra 12-30-2004, 07:48 AM Yes, the part throttle response is back to normal. It doesn't "nose dive" after a part throttle shift. If you are just driving normal its really hard to tell there is more power. But at 2/3 to full throttle you can definately tell it has more power.
madmax69 12-30-2004, 10:57 AM Well, you sold me....... who has the best price?
331cobra 12-30-2004, 11:30 AM I have a friend who is a dealer...I got it pretty cheap. Most everywhere they are between 320-330.
JJs DuMax 12-30-2004, 12:20 PM JJ,
Why the need to install a second tranny and engine temp gauge when you already have one??
OEM gauges are notoriously inaccurate, POS, garbage, etc., etc., etc. I have modified the gauge package and will now monitor EGT's, engine temp and boost. I'm not as concerned with the tranny temp gauge being a bit off, but since I plan to utilize water injection I'll need a good feel for all 3 above.
Where are you guys finding the Predator for $320-$330? The shop I'm dealing with charges $427 but that includes complete setup and a dyno run. Is ole JJ getting porked? JJ
skoryaro2 12-30-2004, 12:31 PM JJ,
Sounds high to me. I've been looking into the Predator as hard as you have lately. The going rate now is usually $399 minus a $50 discount which brings it down to $349. Kennedy also lists it for $399. I'd have to question what the "complete set-up" is. There's not a whole lot to it. Sounds like they should come down another $70 or so.
JJs DuMax 12-30-2004, 12:46 PM Is the dyno run worth the extra $$$$? JJ

To some here - maybe (for bragging rights :) ) but not to me.
