Do any of you techs know how to get the rear light assembly loose on a 2003 Chevy Express 2500 van? I attempted to take the two "bolts" loose, but the light was still stuck in there pretty hard.

I dont want to pull too hard and break the light assembly. I thought it would be as easy as it is to replace bulbs on my DMax, apparently not :(

Installation Procedure

http://service.gm.com/engif/000/000/325/325480.gif

Install the bulbs into the sockets by turning the bulbs in a clockwise direction.
Connect the bulb sockets into the tail lamp (3). Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Install the tail lamp retaining nuts (2) to the upper quarter panel.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

Install the upper quarter panel applique. Refer to Tail Lamp, Back Body Opening Applique Replacement - Side in Body Rear End.

Hmmh! I wonder if that is for the 01-02s. The 03 doesnt look anything like that.

I did notice I typed it was a 2500, but it is a 3500 15 passenger van. 2003 model year.

Thanks Max.

Sorry, I just checked all the service procedures from 2001-2005, all gave the same pictures, they do that some times. I don't have one to look at here, but I believe you still have to remove the upper plastic piece above the taillamp.

Hi Max,

We finally figured it out. Yes, we did have to remove the top piece by compressing the clips. We then were able to get to the light assembly. On this 03, there are no screws holding in to top plastic piece.

Thanks again!
