: Dualy Question for California Drivers?
Accord_boy619 12-28-2007, 05:43 PM Does your truck have a annoying up/down shacking motion while driving on certain Kali freeways? I drove from Ft. Walton Beach FL to Vandenberg AFB CA then to San Diego. My truck shaked up n down on certain freeways, it only did this on Kali freeways. It sux! Ive put a Gorilla Box full of dirt towards the tail gate to see if it would go away. It helped but not enough. What have you guys done to get the shakes out?
carhauler 12-28-2007, 06:17 PM Not to worry ,it's the CA freeways , I spent most of my life there and go often , they are near the worst roads in the USA.
BARRA6706 12-28-2007, 06:29 PM Its the freeway not the truck. I wish the state would give us money for the premature ware on our drive lines and suspension. Ha, I have better odds of winning the lotto than to see that happen!
rutafox 12-28-2007, 06:55 PM It's the freeways. If you want a better ride these might be worth looking into.

michael nelson 12-28-2007, 06:57 PM mine does it also-it is the roads
mbwagoner 12-28-2007, 07:13 PM mostly southern california. The concrete roads make it bounce. Weight in the bed (like 2000lbs) is the only way I've gotten it to not happen. When it does faster or slower or new lanes help, sometimes. Oh yeah not limited to gm or dually's, but longer is worse.
demp223 12-28-2007, 08:49 PM Yep,its the roads.
Pure Diesel 12-28-2007, 08:52 PM Its our great roads. The 118fwy and the 101 thru Camarillo are the worst. Try some air bags with about 20-25lbs of air. Truck rides a lot better.
Accord_boy619 12-28-2007, 08:59 PM Kool Thanx, I started to get worried. Last Time I drove to Kali I drove my Tahoe and it didn't to it. Thats why I started to worry.

X2, the air bags really help with this particular situation.
These new body style 3500s have some serious spring in them, though. I already have bags, but it still hops. Just seriously stout suspension! I think I'll try some Sulastics.
bukuinc 12-31-2007, 02:40 PM The expansion joints are cut at an even ditance so your truck developes a rhythm which causes it to bounce a lot more then in other states where the joints are cut at different distances.
tinypeckerwood 12-31-2007, 03:23 PM the only way it is managable is have a big titted passenger, and then you can enjoy the bounce! but, it is our crappy freeways, I used to travel it 250 miles a day in my rock hard f-800. you couldn't dream of having a cup of coffee. I almost wanted a bra and a jock strap------- yike nasty visual just popped up in my head, about myself !
kasl33 01-02-2008, 07:50 PM Suspension makes a big difference, as well as your wheel base length. If I run with no load or no trailer, I can feel every one of them consistent slams as I pound the road.
When I have my gooseneck - especially with a load, I can't hardly feel a thing with the airbags filled up.
jdandrew 01-02-2008, 10:50 PM Yeppers....it's the roads. We feel it everytime we haul over to Anaheim or SD. I hate to say it, but we'll probably take the 2500HD next time instead of the dually. It's a bit softer on the kidney when running around town empty.
christopherglenn 01-03-2008, 01:38 AM to be a wheelbase thing..
My long bed is far worse then my wides short bed.
the stiff hd suspension doesn't help, a small lift to give a little clearence above the overloads (bottom leaf) would help...

X2. My other dually would do it also. I don't think it is so much a suspension thing as a wheelbase thing. The length of a long-bed CC just hits the ups and downs in the "wrong" spots.
Mine was almost undriveable on the California concrete when it was stock.
the4wheeler 01-03-2008, 01:31 PM up hear in ventura county the best speed for me is about 68-71 mph keeps the shaking to a minimum but full air suspension for the rear is the way i am going to tame the freeway.
ktmmotocross88 01-05-2008, 07:54 PM Oklahoma has the same problem.
Accord_boy619 01-05-2008, 08:35 PM Thanks for all replies. I dont think Im goin to get that shackle thing-a-ma-jig. I dont drive to Kali alot so maybe next time. Im back home in FL now. Yeah 101 near Vandenberg AFB are was the worst.
i bet you get real shakin up on the 10 freeway! try the 2 lanes to the right, smooth as a babies butt, get into the left 2 lanes and it feels like you are in Baja on the 1 lol
Sniper 01-09-2008, 08:49 PM We have the highest DMV fees in the nation and yet it gets spent on radical social experiments (midnight AIDS positive basketball to deter dangerous sexual activity comes to mind) all arranged by liberal legislators that have re-arranged their home districts so that they cannot be voted out of office. Nothing is safe from these "custodians of our tax money" from deciding what type of light bulbs we must use but nothing can be spend on our freeways or other public roads. They are so anti-diesel that only electric battery operated hybrids will be considered, even though European spec "bluetec" diesel powered autos are more efficient. We are constantly told that we must shun the evil SUV, yet everyone of those elected radical politicians has a state provided SUV for their own personal use since their lives are "so much more valuable than the average citizen's".
Better quit. Starting to taste my dinner in the back of my throat from writing this.
