Who here has done the center support drive shaft bearing? I have to do one in my old man's 2000 1 ton (it is actually the old body style though 88-98). I bought the bearing and was wondering if there is a trick to making it easy. Thanks.

Carrier bearing? I thought that the two shafts just spline together right there and that if you take it loose from the rear yoke it should just slide through and so on.... thats how it was on my 93 sonoma....

Carry in & have a drive shaft specialist install it.

I did mine in the parking lot of the autoparts store.

I remember having a problem with a copper shield piece, Take that off with a screwdriver I did, and I got the rest out. That was a few years ago, but I remember having a problem, and it was the little shield. That is probably what gets pressed in, but i never put it back.

Make absolutely certain you get the right one! I bought three of them from parts stores before I got the right one. Ended up going to the stealer and ordering it by VIN. They are not fun to do, you may be able to drive it on carefully with a bfh, but a press is the right way to do it.
Worst part is I went through a whole weekend of tearing it apart, chasing parts, borrowing vehicles and come to find out the new carrier bearing didn't get rid of the vibration. Was a front wheelbearing, but it didn't really behave like a front one, where you can tell when you turn the wheel. And it's starting to do it again, I'm not happy to put $500 wheelbearing hubs in every winter. I think my heavy plow is killing them.

As long as you have a press it should be no problem.

I did the one on my last truck and when this one needed one I called the driveline shop and they told me $10 labor if I briught the shaft to them. Needless to say I didnt do this one at home. lol

They were even $8 cheaper on the part than NAPA so I figured it only cost me an extra $2.

Run over to Ridgefield and talk to Wirth Fab. He can point you in the right direction or just have him do it. He's real smart like that. Not that it means much, but I'd trust him.
