I joined the board a while back but this is my first post. After reading about all the performance options available for these trucks I just couldn't resist. I decided to buy the predator for its simplicity. I wanted a decent hp gain for towing my car trailer without worrying about tearing something up. I just downloaded the 40hp/100ftlbs tune. After driving it for the first time you can definately tell its a little stronger......but it seems to hesitate after each shift. Almost like it looses power for a second. It does this under part or full throttle. Is this just the transmission learning to shift again?
Thanks for any info you guys can give.

Thats the defuel kicking in. Think of it as some trans protection. Also the alli will have to 'learn' the new power and that is part of what your describing.

Is the defueling an option or standard setting that cannot be changed? I'm considering the Predator for my truck as well...
Thanks,

I too experienced a strong pause in the alli shifting after installing the Predator's 65 hp tune. But soon it smoothed out and shifts like the factory tune now. Tried the 100 hp tune and it hesitated again. Didn't give it a chance to learn as 65 hp is enough. The Predator give the truck a fresh feel. Sent email to Diablo concerning the false DIC mpg readings after tuning with Predator. They replied their working on it but won't detune if that's what it will take to return correct readings. So for now I enjoy huge "false" mpg's readings of 24 to 27. ):h

AJYou cannot change the defueling with the Predator, however after a few days of driving you will notice the shifting patterns return to normal. I've run the Predator on both the 40HP and 65HP settings and in my opinion the 40HP tune is very similar to stock once the alli learns the tune. You can feel the 40HP tune especially from a dead stop, the "turbo lag" effect is much less pronounced than stock I feel it's a great tune. The 65HP tune is much more aggressive in it's shifting, almost feels like a hand shaker when you lay into the throttle however if you drive like normal it has a more noticeable shift than stock but not terrible in my opinion. I've yet to run my Predator on the 85 or 100HP tunes as I'm very satisfied with the performance and MPG gain of the 40HP tune.<O:p</O:p

Thanks for the responses......how long does it take for the shifting to get back to normal? A week.....month?

a couple days of driving at least for the truck to 'learn' the power. The defuel is built in to some tunes as trans protection.
Any time your using power devices, you can take the DIC figures and throw them out the window.

After driving the truck for probably 100 miles today the shifting is getting alot better. Its not back to where it was stock but its alot better than last night. Still a little soft especially after the 3-4-5 shifts. Here are my impressions so far.
If you take off normal or maybe mash the throttle 1/2 way down from a stop it doesn't feel any stronger than stock....actually it feels a little sluggish, maybe its because of the soft shifts. When it was stock it seemed to pull harder right after a shift....maybe that will come back after the tranny learns some more.
Also if you are running 65-70 and mash the gas maybe 1/2 way to the floor it doesnt seem to have the instant acceleration as stock.....again, maybe its the tranny.
If you leave from a dead stop and get on it pretty hard......3/4 to full throttle you can definately tell it has more power....unfortunately I dont drive my truck that way. Hopefully the part throttle accelaration will come back.
My DIS gas mileage ratings are WAY off....it says I'm getting 30+ mpg most of the time. I have checked the DIC and its always within 1mpg when the truck was stock.

I got this from the diablosport web site. It's about the Alli and a way to make it learn quicker.

331cobra,
Give it a few days, when I first installed my Predator I experienced the same thing as you, felt a little spongy in between shifts like someone who doesn't know how to drive a stick. I'd say it took a good week before the alli learned how I normally take off from a dead stop, once the alli learned it felt like the take off you are describing for a 3/4 pedal mash.
One thing I didn't notice is your description of lack of instant acceleration while moving, if anything while my alli was learning (and now that it has learned) I noticed a huge improvement in the getup and go while at cruising speed. In fact to me it felt like just a blip on the throttle would shoot me to 80MPH+ !!!
Not sure if any of this info will help ya at all, just give the alli some time and let er run through the gears and if your experience is anything like mine you'll be shifting smooth and launching good from a dead stop.
