Got some H2's with 285/70/17 BFG A/T. Took in to get balanced and had enough stick on weights to sink the titanic. Figuring the fella did'nt know what he was doing I took the tires to another shop. Tires were not correct so tech took all weights off and balanced using weights on the rim lips. Only one tire pretty far off took 6oz on one side of the rim. Now my problem is the weights are falling off while driving. Lost two? -:t They seem to be the correct weights for alum rims? My question is has anyone used the balancing media placed inside the tire and could you recomend a good brand. TIA Mark.

sounds like you might want to consider tossing those tires, before they kill ya. Just a thought.

This is just a matter of not doing the proper procedure with the stick-on weights.

Clean ( and reclean) the mounting area carefully; use some brush-on liquid cement.

Heat the area and weights with a heat gun and finally remove the backing paper and stick them on. Bend the weights slightly to contour themselves to the rim.

You may also want to use "foil-style" duct tape for further protection!

Good luck!

Mike, new tires and new take off rims. Not happy with them being that far off new. Guess I'll call the tire place and see if they will do anything for me.

what tires? Rims usually don't do that.

I didn't have any trouble when I got my BFG mounted up and they used the clip on weights on the beads, 20,000+ miles and still on.

Maybe u got a bad tire or tires.

The snow tires on the H2, I put Equal in them and they are running good.

Tim, 3 of the tires took 2 or 3oz to balance the 4th called for 8oz. course 6oz was on the outside edge. looks like crap with 3 weights on the outside edge thus my question about a product like equal. I also like the fact it's supposed to continue to keep balanced as the tire wears. Maybe not the right clip on weights for the rims? Just ticks me off I've paid for two balance jobs and still don't have it right. Thanks Mark

If rim lip weights came off, then the incorrect weights were used. Go back to them and tell them to rebalance them. The bigger and more aggressive you go with a tire, the more weights they are gonna require. Yours sounds fine. I balance mine in the center only with stick on weights, I wont put bead lip weights on aluminum wheels, they will eventually ruin them, especially PYO's.

After reading this I had to go out and check to see if all my weights were still there. I got my H2 tires and wheels mounted and balanced an hour before I made an 1100 mile road trip friday and they are all still there. I had them use the lip style weights, but put on the inside of the wheel. I didn't want a tacky weight hanging off the outside of a black wheel!

Next time the tire needs 6 oz of weight, have the tire shop break the bead and rotate the tire 180 degrees and then try to re-balance it........

I have a good tire shop in my area who will do that if needed and the most weight I have ever had on any of my wheels was 2 oz total.........:ro)

Either the rim or tire is out, by re~trying the tire in a different location on the rim a lot of times will give a much better result.......

Go to a shop that has a Hunter balancer that can check force variation. It will match the tire to the rim for the best results. And get someone who knows which weights to use.
