I have a 2004.5 with a six speed. I think I have around 12000 miles. I moved to anchorage AK this fall and I'm concerned I may not be taking all the proper steps for my truck in the climate. I do plug my truck in at night but I haven't changed over to synthetic oil because I've been told you need to wait until 20k so the engine will break in. I only drive about 5 miles to work everyday and my truck barely gets warm. We are still using regular diesel. I haven't tried and fuel additives. Would someone please spend a minute and share some advise

Thanks
Josh

Driving 5 miles , is not good. Engine will not like that, it will never get hot enough to burn off condensation that will gather.

Are you doing anything to cover your radiator?? This will help to increase your engine temp. I have the radiator cover and it helps to get the truck near operating temp quicker. Otherwise, go the long way to work, stop for coffee and take your time.... Otherwise, Lucas is the only one I noticed a difference in the way the truck operates. As far as oils.....I don't like the synthetics so much....but there are a lot of threads here that elude to some good ones.

its simple, when you wake up to get ready go start your truck, or get up an hour or like 30min before you have to ready for work and start it, that a simple soultioin to your problem, and so ive heard you can get your computer flashed for fast idle so when you start it put the fast idle on and let it idle and warm up before you go to work
