Like it says, can I run the stuff? It does have a CH-4 rating on it. Thanks, Nick

I would stick with a 5W-40 if it were me.........

Most run that weight without any problems at all.......

I would but Wally World up here doesn't have it. With the regular dino stuff, when I start up in the mornin', the "Check oil pressure level" lights up for abot 3 secs. I know, I know, not good. The temps up this way get really low in the mountains.

Ran Shell Rotella 0w 40 synthetic for the better part last winter. I will be switching to it shortly(scheduled change) if the cold weather (brrrrr) keeps up. Makes it easier on start up, no doubt. I would imagine you have colder temps than me, so i wouldn't see a problem in using it, still gives you protection, just don't let it go too far when the temp warms up in the spring.

Well, here's the question... 5W40 shows in the diesel suppliment that it's good for frostbite-on-the-butt cold all the way to not-enough-water hot.

Why not just run synth 5w40 year round?

I'm running Esso/Exxon 0w-40 right now. I'll go back to 15w40 in about the tail end of March - early April. I ran Delo 5w40 last year but I didn't like that it came in 3.8L jugs. Two 5L jugs of the 0w-40 and I'm good for 10K.

It's at a dealer specific to Alberta - UFA deals with Chevron Products here. The UFA oil is blended and packaged by Imperial Oil (Esso/Exxon).

Just wondering, (Emsi) is 10K your regular oil change interval for the duramax. I might be overdoing it at 7K, occasionally towing a 5th wheel trailer, winter I don't tow at all.

We need to be sure we're talkin the same language. I can't see from you sig where your at so to be clear that 10k is in kilometers - convert to miles and thats 6,250 miles. I was thinking about pushing it a little more with the 0w-40 to 12K or 7,500 miles but I haven't decided yet. A lot of it will depend on where you live - how hot/cold it is and how hard you are working the engine. I think there's quite a few on this board that push thier intervals to 7,500 miles plus - some with oil analysis - some without.

depends also on the type of synthetic or dino and the type of filters (bypass?). If you replace filters reqularly on a remote bypass you can actually, based on analysis, only add a little synthetic when you change filters. . . . Greg Landuyt told me his is still running the same oil (with some filter changes?) and is now at 20K miles !
