well it all started last summer. i bought the truck from a dealer its an 00 f350 SD crew cab long bed lariat with 70,000 miles on it. the next week the truck began to have starting problems. it would start fine with regular use. but if it sat for about a week or two it would start but miss fire until it warmed up. but now when i try it will turn over and sound like half of the engine is firing but no more. kinda like a clunk clunk clunk kinda sound. lots of black smoke (its a diesel i know) but it wont fire even after a minute of turning it over. i dont wanna blow the starter motor and i can see a little bit of fuel leaking out the bottom of the engine close to the water trap. im lost and dont know where to start. ive got a 3000 pound camper on it and towing it is not an option. so its up to me and my considerable skills.....hahaha anything will help. thanks.

Change the fuel filter, and change the oil. Get a good diesel (Rotella 15 40) in there, and then try. PSD's are touchy about their oils. Injectors are run off of oil pressure.
If that dosent do it, injectors?
70k, you should still be under dealer warranty. It goes for 5y, 100k miles.

Go to www.dieselstop.com (http://www.dieselstop.com/) and post your problem on the 7.3 section. Someone there will be able to help you. It sounds like you may have a problem with the High Pressure oil pump. This pump runs the injectors and if it doesn't pressure up the injectors won't fire.

If Guy Before You Didnt Look After It All That Well (oil Changes).. Hard For You To Tell Of Cource, But I Would Say That Is What Is Causing Problem. Dont Know If Couple Of Quick Oil Changes Might Help, But Id Say Injectors Will Need To Be Changed.

How much time lapsed before symptoms returned? Maybe simply replacing fuel filter only bought you time, when in reality the residual water remaining in the bottom of the fuel filter wasn't noticed or removed upon filter replacement?

sounds like the Injector driver module is going bad, pull it off the inner fender and turn it up side down I'll bet it has got water in it , seen it many times here at work on our e series cutaways.

Sounds to me more like the O-rings have ruptured on the injectors, and your having a hard time building up enough oil pressure in the galleries to get it started, so many things on these powerstrokes that can cause what you describe, but thats my guess.
diesel engines run off heat from compression if your blowing black smoke the diesel is getting to the cylinder and passing threw without being ignited. now if only half the engine sounds like its firing that can only mean that there is a cylinder head problem that would explain a clunk sound and a fuel leak. dont kill the messenger man im just reading what your writing and i hope im wrong for your sake. although if its still under warranty you got no worries
