: Gauges in a D-max.....

Ok guys I need to pick your brains a little bit for some of that knowledge.....I have put 3 gauge sets(boost-pyro-trans. temp) in many of cummins and powerstrokes, but never a D-max. My question is where do you guys suggest putting the probe for the pyro for a pre- turbo spot....Where to hook up the boost gauge......and where to put the sender for the trans. temp gauge. In fords you use the drivers side manifold, and dodges are right on top. The wire in the autometer set is not long enough to go to the passenger side. For boost you usually T into the map sensor line, or tap the manifold... Does the Allison have test ports like the Dodges and the Fords to screw the trans. temp sender in?...Sorry still learning about the D-maxes.....Do performance parts on mostly Ford and Dodges....

Pyro on the pass side exhaust manifold.
boost. on the intake pipe going into the y to the heads.
trans has a pressure tap port to tap into.

Ok thanks Patrick.....but where is the pressure tap port at on the trans????.....Is the pass. side manifold the only place to install the pyrometer probe?. We looked at the truck a little while ago, and it does look easier on the pass. side. Also can you just drill and tap the intercooler pipe or should I T the wastegate line for the boost gauge?

You don't say if you have a lb7 or lly. It's a real ***** putting a tee on the wastegate of the lly ... it doesn't have a wastegate. You have to go into the intake plumbing somewhere. The intercooler pipe is an option. Welding a bung on the intake pipe is an option, as is drilling an tapping the wye going to the heads. Most put the pryo on the passerger side, because as you noted, it is easier. Go to the DIY section for a step by step instruction on that.

One question. Why do you want to put a transmission gauge on the column? There is already one in the instrument cluster.

Here's what I did (http://www.getdieselpower.com/my01dmax_files/egt/article/article.html)

Sorry guys the truck is a 2001 D-max.....So I take it it has a LB-7 motor....I posted it in that section but it was moved to here. Guess that was the wrong place.....SORRY.....Anyway about the trans temp. Gauge......The reason we got one is because of previous expieriances with factory gauges not being accurate. Yes it has a factory gauge, but are these factory gauges accurate?):h

Does anyone no where this pressure tap port is that patrick is talking about???.....I'm checking to see if I can get a longer wire for the pyro to reach the passenger side manifold. I guess I will T into the wastegate line for the boost gauge. Hey what if I unhook the wastegate altogether? Will you get more boost? Thats what we do on Fords and it results in more boost and lower EGT's......Any suggestions?):h

the turbo will spool to fast and self destrucked you dont want that now do you. Just get the banks big head waist gate it works and its safe.

Wow will this really happen? Will the turbo really do that? I have never heard this. They have a Banks big head for Fords but have never used them. We just unhook the wastegate and adjust the rod up tight, so it won't open. We have done this on Dodges too......It usually results in about 30lbs of boost instead of 24lbs, and also drops the EGT's a whole lot....The stock Ford Turbos are not real good over 26lbs of boost but they do ok as long as it don't see over 30lbs all the time.......Anyway is this port on the trans on the drivers side of the trans.? I ordered the longer wire for the pyro today....I beleive it is like 14'....the one that came with it was 8'.....

Step away from the waste gate!!!!. These turbos will let go without a waste gate. I took mine off once to play and pinned my 35psi gauge.

Ok thanks for the info on the wastegate guys...Autometer is in the process of going to a 10' pyro wire instead of the standard 8' one, but its not out yet. Instead they are sending me another 8' wire to hook together. They said as long as I only bolted them together(No Solder) it wouldn't affect the gauge. Soldering the wire will change the resistence. They are also giving me one of the plastic T's for the boost gauge, so I can tap into the wastegate line.........So where is this port on the trans on the drivers side?:D
