Just installed a Fisher 8 ' snowplow on my 04.5 2500 Crew cab shortbed,Tuck has plow and tow package,The front of the truck squatts about 1.5" and the plow frame is low to start causing it to scrape the ground any advice? I thought about turnig up the torsion bars but someone told me thay wold break prematurely

You can also crank up the torsion bars a bit.

Don't forget to add BALAST in the bed too. I personally would run at lease 1,000 lbs of ballast. A lot of people say add the weight of the plow to the bed. I think the fisher site has a recommendation based on your plow/vehicle. We load our trucks with salt bags and sand bags.

We also cranked the bars 4 turns and added timbrens. The timbrens will also aid in taking some of the weight off of the torsion bars and putting it on the frame.

Balast and timbrens will really help the front end. Turning the bars should put you back to a desirable height if the other things don't. You can also turn the bars back down in the summer if you choose.

We have a 1,000 lbs plow hanging off the front of our crew cab duramax and it seems to be taking it well.

How low is your hitch? Definately not good if it is scraping the ground. Is the A-Frame level?

ID say about 3" of clearance at the adjustment point that has 2 or 3 holes,I was tempted to torch off the area that protrudes down below the frame.

Screw the T-bars in until you have about 1/4 inch sticking out.

I have run all my Trucks with a t-bar adjust ment, 55k on the 01 and it carrys a Blizzard 810, No broken t-bars here. I have a front tend shop do ours about 3/4" and its looks nice on the truck. You may also want to check the tire pressure, all the 2500/3500 we mounted plows on this season had between 30 and 45 psi, pump them up to 75 and you get a lot less nose dive. Most all snow plow manufacture say to add at least 700 LBS behind the rear wheel.

I put a Western on the front of my 04 2500 HD. I cranked the bars about 7 to 8 turns and got the truck level. I also added timbrens and upped my tires from 245's to 265's.. I also plan on carrying about 800 to 1000lbs of salt in the bed for the spreader. Now all we got to do is get some snow. ):h
One lst thing now I got to figure out why my fuel milage has gone from 18 mpg to 15 mpg-:t and this started before I changed tire sizes

If the truck is a CC with a diesel it does not have a plow package. The best thing to do to these trucks is ballast, Timbren's, and T-bar crank.I have an 04 CC gasser and with 400lbs of sand in back and a Fisher 7.5 in the front, the truck barely squats. Like others have said, with a diesel and an 8 FT Fisher, I would definitely put in 800 or so pounds of ballast. It makes a huge difference. After that, I would fine tune it with the T-bars and Timbren's.

Thanks for the advice,Ill order the timberlins and crank up the bars.Antbody recomend a good source for the timberlins? Are they a large bushing or do they hold air?

Timbrens don't raise the truck. They are just larger bump stops. Crank the T-bars and you MUST use 500-600 lbs of ballast in the bed or you are driving dangerously. Read your plow directions. It will tell you about ballast. It's MOST important.

I will ecco the ballast, t bar crank, and timbrens last comment.

Make sure you adjust the t bars the correct way, yes you can just start cranking but you should use the proper tool to take the pressure off em. Do a search for the specific method if your fuzzy about it. Also dont raise the front of your truck over 1.5-2" over factory hight.

Did you make sure that the plow frame was put together correctly.
The adjustment point you mention with the 3 holes is for adjusting the plow to diffrent height truck's. Make sure you don't have it set up for a tall truck.
IF I remember correctly I think the adjustment should be in the bottom hole for a height disadvantaged truck. :)
Just check the instruction's

With my 01 GMC HD installing the Western 8.6 MPV, it barely got low enough at the lowest configuration. When I moved it to the DOdge it barely makes it at the highest configuration.

I have the 9' x-blade on my x-cab 2500hd. I just cranked up the torsion bars 3/4" and move the blade to the bottom hole. I have no problems. I also put a 3/4" cutting edge on it which gave it another 100lbs give or take.... my truck drops exactly 1" when I lift the plow...you can also go w/ 265 tires as well. It'll help w/ more ground clearance and add to the traction...

Here is the page that came with my Meyer mount for the 2005 GMC. Gives dimensions on how far to adjust torsion bars or at least a place to start I turned mine up 5 or 6 turns I have not checked what my truck clearance measurement is yet.

I just installed an 810 Blizzard and my torsion bars were already cranked up before when I put 285's on it. My height from floor throught center of wheel to bottom of fender flare is 39". perfect heighth. no scrapes.
