: Are lbz's proving to be reliable?
ponsi 12-21-2007, 02:22 PM The reason I ask this question is because I have an '06 lbz but I rarely drive it. I purchased it on Feb of '06 and I only have 13,000 miles in it. I'd say that a little more than half of that has been towing a 6000+ Mastercraft boat and I have been pleased with it's performance. I was just wondering if the folks with higher mileage have been pleased with the truck?
carhauler 12-21-2007, 02:42 PM Look at this post , mine has just shy of 110thou never seen the dealer,Great engine,Great truck.

Dirt Dog 12-21-2007, 02:45 PM I've got 36K and 2 years on mine now with a Hypertec set on level 3 for the entire time. No problems what so ever.
saratoga 12-21-2007, 02:52 PM They're well proven now.
FSTDMAX 12-21-2007, 04:08 PM I'm a ford guy and I like the truck. We had two LBZ's at my old work. One was one ton dump with a smaller box that we chiped, and put on intake and exhaust. It ran unreal, talk about a sleeper. There's nothing better than beating someone in a dump truck. It also pulled its fair share and never had any problems. On the other hand the one I bought i'm having problems with and it gets babied quite a bit.
PADiesel 12-21-2007, 04:12 PM I was diehard Ford till I purchased mine in Feb '07. So far it has 31K on it and it just gets better and better.
ZAK G 12-21-2007, 06:14 PM My 06 lbz has 110k on it and according to the vin check was only at the dealer at 20k miles for a recall about the glow plug controller.
jbdmax 12-21-2007, 06:40 PM My 06 lbz has 22k on it, purchased nov. 05, no problems at all. not alot of miles but always runs great, all stock right now.
thejdman04 12-21-2007, 06:43 PM yes very reliable
MadMax72 12-21-2007, 06:52 PM well I have had mine for 34000 miles roughly, and I pound the pooh out it ha ha, i pull a 38ft goose usually with about 4 cords of firewood every weekend from the lake, and about four weeks a go i noticed a horrible grinding noise while in four-wheel drive only on decel, took in they repalced the front drive line, and transefer case, big hassel with one of the steelers but she is fixed now, i find that impressive she holds up to my foot, Love my GM's
My 07 lbz has 37500 miles and no complaints, except the steering shaft,it was replaced at the stealership ,fixed now from clunkin.Mine is a keeper.
MadMax72 12-21-2007, 08:28 PM yeah forgot about the ole steering shaft, but had three trucks do that, it almost seems like it suppose to be done lol
bob650 12-21-2007, 11:24 PM my 07 has 16000 trouble free miles and my 06 work "test:-)" truck has 74000 HARD miles without a problem.
steakman 12-22-2007, 01:17 AM Are lbz's proving to be reliable?

Brad03ca 12-22-2007, 02:10 AM Just bought my 07 GMC D/A, 12K What a truck......
grizzified 12-22-2007, 02:29 AM Well, before I start ranting, I'll start with a simple statement. Great truck. I do actually love it despite its shortcomings and my current 'challenges'. I drive mine like its an Audi and put about 2500 miles on it a month commuting to and from work about 100 miles a day, in the very hilly and winding Puget Sound. Add another 150 miles on the weekend for honey-dos and my weekly trip to the hills to beat up my ATV and there ya go. I've had mine about 14 months and have just crossed the dreaded 36,000 mile marker. In the last month I've had the ISS replaced, the carrier bearing replaced, the driveshaft(s?) sent out for balancing, replaced the worn tires, had the idler arm and steering stabilizer replaced, and its going in next week for a leaking yoke to be replaced and a leaking power steering hose to be replaced as well. Currently I've still got a wicked driveline hum/growl that occurs anywhere from 45-65mph and most frequently under low load at about 62mph. The steering is also WAY wrong and while it will track straight on a perfectly flat road, anything else gives it fits. My suspicion is that the driveline left the factory improperly aligned, as many others have found on here, and that the GM IFS is wicked short of ideal. I also suspect I've got a pump rub problem as I'm now starting to hear the driveline whistle(sounds like a windshield leak sort've), and tonight on my drive home I could hear my steering shaft squeak with the bumps as I went willy-nilly over our local highway potholes at 70mph.
Well, its quite a rant, but there is my honest assessment after 14 months of ownership. While I think most of these problems are quite fixable and I've had no problems with my main attraction to this truck - the Duramax and Allison, these 'little' nickel and dime problems are irritating for a $45k truck. Despite all this, in all honesty I would buy another Chevy/GMC for my needs over a Ford or Dodge, though I'm questioning my reasoning at this point. As a reference, I'm a former auto tech and used to test drive/quality control Porsche/Audi for a large local factory service department. Also, as far as dealer quality goes, I think most are absolutely horrible these days and my GM experience is no different. I've had to fight very hard to get anything fixed on this $45k truck, and am still fighting for the driveline hum(I've just about given up on the steering issues). I'll say it one more time - 45 THOUSAND DOLLARS. That and $5 will get you a 'could not duplicate' and a coffee at Starbucks. Anyways, think its probably the best biggest package out there, but don't dive in without knowing its got its share of problems and the same krappy service that my wife gets at the local VW dealer for her Jetta. BTW, she paid cash in 2003 for it and got nothing but grief from the dealer she bought it from; I've also been bringing my truck to the dealer I bought it from. It seems that once the sale is done, its time to start hitting us up for problems that were created on the production line.....
There's my $9.63, sorry for the super rant.
Micheal Tomac 12-22-2007, 10:23 AM I've got just over 25000 trouble free miles on my 07 (half of those towing). Hasn't been to the dealer and I haven't had to fix anything on it so far. It gets great mileage and tows like a beast at 22-23k combined.
truckie481 12-22-2007, 10:38 AM 44,000 miles with no problems.
redneckbuckeye 12-22-2007, 11:02 AM 22k no problems, love the truck.
cowdoc 12-22-2007, 11:44 AM I have had mine for about 14 months and 45k miles. It has never had a single problem! Love this truck!!!!
cnagpilot 12-22-2007, 01:00 PM Love mine, 21k dealer replaced the pitman and idler 26k now with no other porblems
SteveFord 12-22-2007, 04:06 PM Only problem I've had is a leaking yoke on the drive shaft @ 8,000+ miles. Dealer fixed and no other problems.
grizzified 12-22-2007, 04:34 PM Reading all these success stories is starting to make me feel like I'm in the twilight zone; I really wish I had nothing to report.
jawaring 12-22-2007, 05:09 PM I've got less than 10k on mine but it runs great. The Ford I had last year was in the shop 4 times under 8k so I'm much happier!
The truck does have its quarks- power window hum on the passenger side, the normal steering clunk, etc. But IT IS A TRUCK- granted, an expensive one but I paid for the Duramax/Allison and not precision European window controls and steering shafts. Could it be better? Yes, but it could be way worse too...
Pea Eye 12-22-2007, 09:28 PM Hey CowDoc,....I have the same truck as you but bone stock. What made you go for the predator? just wondering...cause I am trying to figure out what set up is proper. I like everything else you put on . You sound like your happy with it. and.......dang nice truck! :)

JBarker-BanksPower 12-22-2007, 10:58 PM Just from a vendors standpoint yes they are VERY reliable. As you might expect if there's a common problem with any of these trucks you can bet we'll here about it! The LBZ platform I hear very little complaints about. It's a great truck!:thumb:
floriduramax1 12-22-2007, 11:19 PM I got mine Oct. 2006, got 29,965 VERY HARD miles on her. I changed the steering shaft myself, changed out for the clutched alternator myself, switched over to the Chevy tail lights and right now I have the 2nd battery leaking acid. That's it! Oh.. also, my passenger door light sometimes stays on at night when I shut my door, I have to switch the dome lights on then off to turn it off. That's it! I absolutely love this truck! I will keep it in my family for a long time.

I pitched the stock wheels/tires and swapped shocks almost immediately after picking mine up in June '06. Do what I did and you'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner.

Buckimax 12-23-2007, 09:13 AM I got mine in Aug. 06, Ive got 41,000 miles on it, what a truck no complaints. I had to have a new battery and speaker under warrenty and thats it. other than the 3 sets of rear tires:D. I traded in a dodge cummings and it was the best decision I ever made....

Aug.06 is a national holiday -- the anniversary of the first beneficial application of atomic energy.
tarponguy 12-23-2007, 10:25 AM 17,000 trouble free miles. Love the truck.
One check engine light since I had it. EGR motor replaced at 19,842 miles. Right at 20,600 miles right now with no other issues, knock on wood. Pulled the hunting camper back yesterday, up one 6 mile 7 % grade in 5th and 6th gear, got about 12.7 MPG hand calculated, running anywhere from 65 MPH to 75 MPH. Power to pass, anytime I wanted to. I believe its going to be a keeper.
a bear 12-23-2007, 12:00 PM 49K No Problems.
simelliot 12-23-2007, 12:23 PM 126,000 . Injector pump at 94K...NO other probs. Covered under warranty. Bully Dog tow tune. Of the 126,000, over 110,000 pulling 16k loaded trailer (6 horses and equipment).

After I upgraded the factory pizza cutters, I needed a way to recalibrate he ECM for the bigger tires and the added power was just a bonus! I tried the Edge Evolution and the Hypertech Max Power. In the end, the Predator was just a better all around product for the money, IMHO. These are nice trucks ain't they :D!
newduramaxguy 12-23-2007, 04:11 PM These are nice trucks ain't they :D!

Narcah 12-23-2007, 10:04 PM 41,000 miles of mechanically trouble free (that I didn't cause...) The interior though, is, well, terrible. 2 sets of dash gauges, 3 radios, head liner (which the dealer busted a molding piece replacing which they didn't tell me so another 2 trips to the dealer.) I've spent way more time than I want to in the dealer, but so far it's all been minor, albeit very annoying, stuff.
And the CD player is going out again.
mattofferdahl9 12-29-2007, 01:40 AM I could name a half dozen pesky things taht have gone wrong in 63,000 miles, but I beat on my truck, its had a lift in it I have run it at about 525+ hp for almost 70% of its life and its doin fine. The thing I've noticed with GM is that little SH$& breaks, partly because they cheaped out on alot of things I beleive and with all the rising costs they have to but they put the money where it matters most...the drivetrain, a clunky ISS shaft or one of those stupid covers for the door panel lights that wont stay on wont leave you on the side of the road..Their drivetrains are always strong and usually fairly reliable.
gardnerteam 12-29-2007, 12:31 PM I've had 3 (Lb7, LLY, & LBZ) and they have been the most reliable of any trucks I have every had, and I've had a lot as you can see by my sig. LLY only went to the dealer once for some piddly non-mechanical item, LBZ hasn't been to the dealer and has 60,000 on it, and the LB7, even though the injectors went bad and filled the crankcase with diesel at 70,000 miles, allowed my to drive it home over 3,000 miles loaded to 15,000 lbs from Guadelajara Mexico using diesel as oil in the crankcase without any damage to the engine. Changed injectors, and had engine tested. Still going strong, uses no oil.
Great trucks, great engines, and super transmissions. If only the company could come up to the standards of the truck they build.
haulin-rv 12-30-2007, 09:24 AM Mine did really well up to 280k or so, then developed a low fuel pressure problem (p0087). After a couple months and a few thousand dollars I gave up and traded. So as far as the avg joe these trucks will last longer than most will keep them!

Hey Haulin, glad to see ya round! Did you ever figure out what the fuel problem was? i have a guy i know with the same problem in an 06 LLY truck. If you could help thanks!

Sorry, no idea. I gave up, got tired of dumping money and time in it.
