Well i was in walmart last night doing that last bit of christmas shopping

When i ran across this Wireless Security unit made By ASTAK it has the option to use 9V batteries and has a range of 30 to 300 feet. It's also suppose to be weather proof indoor/outdoor cameras.

http://www.astak.com/CM812C2.htm

my cameras look like these ones though
http://www.astak.com/CM-818T3.htm

These are Night Vision Also. I haven't gotten them installed yet granted i'm doing alittle work with ways to do it. One i plan to use as a camera for the 5th wheel hitch/ Gooseneck. And i may make it so i can remove it and put it else where if i desire. And the other i plan to mount the other on the bumer.

So far with my little in home test with the truck outside I backup up to my trailer or close then cam in the house and looked and the view looks pretty good.

Nigh Vision range is 20ft it says. which it looks darn close to that The view agle is only 60 degrees though which i will see once i get it fully into the truck we will see how it works.

It comes with a switcher on the reciver so the down side to that is i have to have access to it to change the channels or at least the infared sensor for the remote to work.

The only snags i'm running into is power for the Cameras. weather to leave them on the 9v Bateries cause they stay on all the time unless you unplug them. Or get a converter of some kind. The 2nd camera i have can leave with a battery cause that will be my mobile one. I have plans to see how it works on the back of my father in laws camper. So for you guys with them rigs this may be a possibility for you also.

So what you guys think? i will update you as my progress goes i'm hopeing to finish this project up over the next month. I could use some help in the powering situation so some of you electrical gurus help in getting things powered.

Let us know how it works. I have been wanting to hardwire a camera for the back of my truck for lining up the hitch and would like a wireless for the back of my enclosed trailer before i back into something. I am going to build a console for a CB, 2 camera screens and a safe for my pistol in front of the seat too.

I have a wireless camera for hooking up to trailers as well. IT STINKS! it works when it wants to, to much interference. I will tell you what brand when I go out to truck.

I could use some electric Gurus help on this one. The plugs for the unit and the camera are as follows. input is 120v ac and converts it to 8vdc 200ma for the cameras. and 8vdc 300ma for the wireless unit.

So can someone help me get the 12v system of the truck to plug into these 8v units? there has to be something out there thats not huge?

Woodchuck i will keep you and everyone updated. I plan to plumb these units into my TNR Nav unit

We were discussing this very thing in an earlier thread this fall; some guys had good luck, others didn't with reception. Also, those $100 wireless cameras had issues with moisture build up behind the lens............I actually had one in my hands ready to purchase, and decided to go another route. There's a vendor here on the site that has a 'cubby hole' solution which looks very cool. I don't have the NAV screen system in my truck.

TRMN8R Yeah i read the post on them cameras and part of the problem it seemed like the range sucked these ones have a 30-300ft range and i have already tested them with the reciver unit in my house and one of the cameras on the back of my truck about 60ft away and it looked good

As far as how well they hold up outside i'll just have to do some prelim testing

Well, you're up in the north on the other side of the country, so our weather is similar........I'm interested in finding out how the cameras hold up with temp variations and if they're sealed up tight to minimize condensation..........also, the resolution, etc........those kinds of things. Looking forward to your futher comments upon testing. Thx!

Radio shack part number LM317T adjustable voltage regulator - $2.29 each. You could use one on the truck for the camera and receiver, and another on the trailer for the 2nd camera. The voltage and current should be low enough that I doubt you'll need heat sinks.
