Got uip this morning, it was 25 degrees and the truck started good but all the guages and speedometer don't work. Panel cluster fuse is okay so I don't know what the problem is. Read just recently on here somewhere that a couple other guys have the same problem, If they or someone else has any ideas let me know. meanwhile I'll keep trying to find the problem. Thanks

Found this info, sheds a little light on the problem.

Subject:

Condition

Some customers may comment that upon vehicle start-up, all instrument panel cluster gauges are inoperative.

Cause

During a cold start or low battery condition, a low voltage condition may cause gauges to freeze during crank cycle.

Correction

Important: DO NOT REPLACE the following clusters unless a reprogram does not correct this condition.

I am having the exact same problem. started last night and fuses appeared fine (still not 100% sure whih fuse it is). So I guess you are saying that I need to take it to the dealer and try to have them reprogram?

Seems some of the 03's mine included have a occasional problem of the guage cluster not working on start up. Try turning off the truck and restarting once or twice sometimes it will work again. Seem's if there's improper voltage at start up it just wont work right. Mine turned out to be 2 loose + battery cables at the starter. Tightened them up and haven't had a problem since. Some have reported bad grounds.
Do a search here of "no guages" or "no guage cluster" and so on, some reading material for ya.

Good Luck.

That info above about cold starting and low voltage was extrated from a tech Bulliten, its number 03-08-49-020 dated 19 Nov 03.

Started truck last night (37 Degrees) and guages worked. Started truck this morning (30 degrees) and guages don't work. Battery reads 12.4 volts both times. Will try it aagain later when tempature goes up. I'm convinced now its a tempature sensitive problem and will take the truck on sick call Tuesday.

I've tried restarting mine all weekend at various times and it never works. Looks like I too am making a sick call on monday

What lervel tempature's you lookig at when you start up and and the gauges don't work. Mine is affected after sitting at 30 or less degrees for a few hours and then when rhe temp is above 35 for a few hours the guages work when truck is started.

I'd say 20's at night and 30's during the day. I've tried both night and day to the same effect. NOTHING. I need to call the dealer in the AM

If you pull the IPC/DIC fuse underhood for a second it will reboot the cluster so it works until you get it reprogrammed.

I just had that problem myself, except I believe the outside temp got down to 0* or so during the night. Hasn't happened again, even though the temps are still around 20* for the past week or so here.

Not really concerned though as GM will be sending me yet another cluster due to there wonderful idea that if your bulb goes out behind your oil pressure gauge, then they send you another whole cluster! Several hundred $ cluster for a $1 if that bulb! At least I got 1500 mi. out of this cluster!

Who manufactures these cluster's for GM? Is it Delphi?

Dealer is telling me the reprogram didn't work and it's time to fork out $500 for a new one

The reprogram will not work until you wake up the cluster like I mentioned above.

Took the truck in this morning andthe tech reprogramed what ever has to do with the gauges. Will have to wait for another freeze to see if the fix worked.
