My '82 @ 240,000 miles has 35lbs, hot idle and 55-60 lbs, hot @ hwy speeds. (If you believe GM factory electronic guages.) I've not felt the need to check it with a manual guage as it has not indicated any problems. My '84 Suburban shows similar pressures with a little less mileage. hope this helps, Fred

 yeah my gauge has been acting funny, in the morning the truck will run close to 80 psi then when it warms up to temp it runs about 55-60 going down the road, then at idle it would sink to alittle over 40 psi, but within the last two weeks since it got cold and i started pluging it in at night. now it starts up the same but after it warms up it crusies at alittle more than half gauge which is alittle over 40psi, and at idle it sits at alittle over quarter gauge is the gauge just messin up or am i really losing oil pressure, no change in hoe the truck runs at all actually i think its running better kinda werid, am i just lossing it:confused:

Mine both run 80lbs on startup also. If in doubt, unscrew the sender and put in a manual guage just to verify readings. Don't know how familiar you are w/GM 6.2 senders so here goes....The sender has a wrench fitting on top, just below the wire connector. Don't put a wrench on it, I've had them turn the can and not move the threaded portion in the block fitting. That can damage the sender. I've bent a 9/16 end wrench 90 degrees and use it to remove the sender from the adapter fitting below, near the block. I put the wrench on that lower hex fitting below the tin can part of the sender and then use an 8" crescent to turn the other end of the wrench from above. (This probably doesn't make much sense, I wish I could send a picture.)

The lower fitting is 1/4" pipe, so you may need a fitting to match your manual guage. Most of them are 1/8" pipe. I made up a manual guage years ago (about 30+ years ago). I bought an aftermarket 0-100 lb guage and some pressure hose rated at 200psi. A few different fittings and I've been able to check engine and trans pressures on most vehicles. I had to add a 0-300 lb guage for transmissions.

Good luck, I'll check back and see how you came outl.

My 1984 engine runs 35 PSI at highway speeds with Delo 400 30 wt. It has been that since day one with a mechanical oil pressure gauge. It runs 20 PSI at idle speed. During cold weather I let the engine warm up so the oil pressure doesn't exceed 60 PSI. When the engine is warmed up then it will be 35 PSI.

i guess that if mine is about 50 at highway speed i should not be worried? im used to my older gas engines that ive built that all run from 60 at idle to almost 80 at highway speeds. ive just saw a slight drop in oil pressure from 60 at highway speeds and 40 or better at idle. just kinda freaked me out.
