I think the H3's will get the new Italian Diesel GM just bought, I can't remember the name but I remember seeing the H3 on the list of what the motors will go into. I ain't entirely sure so don't go on what I'm saying lol

The latest issue of Diesel Power listed the VM MOTORI S.P.A. RA 630 DOHC as a potential motor for H3. It is a V-6 with 250 HP and 406lb-ft of torque

The Duramax diesels were a joint venture with Isussu but the 4.5L is all GM. The 4.5L Diesel will be built in GM's Tonawanda, N.Y. Plant. The Duramax's are built in Ohio. The new 4.5 L diesel is the only true GM Diesel as all others are joint venture. This will be the 18th GM diesel used in GM Vehicles and will take over as the standard engine in many larger GM vehicles. The 2.0 L diesel is headed to become the standard for the Malibu,Saturn,Pontiac, and Buick smaller sedans by 2011.:D

Yes it is. We asked if they were putting v8 in the H3, no go.. frame will not allow it. Extended versions of Trailblazer and Envoy can, but not the H3. (per GM guys at Shreveport,La. plant)

The H3 alpha has the 5.3 V-8 in it. I guess it is a very tight fit but it does fit.

If a 5.3l will fit then there shouldnt be too much of a problem getting the 4.5l in there from what i have heard.

If it does happen i may have to take a better look at them.

It wouldn't be too hard to beef up the frame on the H3 to make it work, especially if they are already using the 5.3 liter gas in it. I would expect that with congress passing the new 35 mpg regulation last week you will see GM put this diesel in as many things as possible to get their average mpg up even. It wouldn't suprise me if they don't even figure out a way to use cylinder deactivation on diesels to even further up the fuel economy.

The 5.3 L fits so tight in the H3 that a V-6 diesel would make more sense because of size restrictions, and all of the emissions crap that has to go on the diesel take up a lot of room. Either way a diesel in the H3 would make it a much better vehicle with the low end torque for off roading and the much better fuel econmy.

If the 4.5L ever gets in the H3, or anyother diesel version for that matter, I know that will be the new veichle for the wife. I really like those, and when we were looking for something new for her, I looked at a couple of H3's but that I-5 in it just didn't feel right. Her Envoy XL has the 4.2L and that has some good pep. I'm really excited to see this 4.5L come out real soon. I might just take a test drive if I'm able to just get a review of it.

Actually the 4.5 will be for the H2. The H3 should get the 250hp/406ft-lb 2.9L V6 diesel. It also has a CGI block, has reverse airflow and no exhaust manifolds (same as the 4.5) I would also like to see this engine in the Pontiac G8 (Holden Commodore) and GMC Acadia, Canyon etc. High res images on the link.

Both standard and EXT versions of the Trailblazers and Envoys are the same from the B pillar forward so obviously V8's will fit in the shorter length vehicles. The standard length Trailblazer SS, Evoy and Buick Rainier are/were offered with a V8s.

Even with elementary knowledge of diesel engines, it's easy to see that "cylinder deactivation" or displacement on demand would do absolutely nothing to improve the mileage of a diesel engine. With an highly variable air fuel ratio, a diesel engine under light load will burn only a negligible amount of fuel anyway.

There is a custom Hummer conversion shop in Wichita KS that puts duramax's in hummers H1 H2 and H3's. Its called HLine conversions

Diesel Conversions
Available for Hummer H1 and Hummer H2
The Duramax Diesel Engine conversion for Hummer H1 and H2 consists of a 6.6 liter Duramax Diesel engine specially matched with an Allison heavy-duty transmission in your choice of either 5 or 6 speed and selectable 2 wheel / 4 wheel drive heavy duty transfer case. The base conversion package starts out with 495 horsepower and with performance upgrades and modifications can be increased to 950 horsepower. The biggest gain from the conversion is the outstanding fuel mileage from 9 to 12 MPG in a stock Hummer to 18 to 26 MPG - which is unheard of.

Each conversion is completed per the customer’s specific requests: Contact us for ‘build time’ for the H1 and 10 days for the H2. This ensures that each conversion is completed properly and the vehicle has been thoroughly inspected and road tested prior to delivery.

How serviceable are these engines? You need to find someone to buy the vehicle when the warranty has expired ...

is such a good idea on a diesel engine. you hit the highway, 4 cylinders shut down, and you're jake braking down the interstate for know reason
