Well i took delivery of my new 05, crew cab, long bed GMC today.
It is great BUT,
When i go 55mph the temp. stays at 190*.
If i zip it up to 70 mph for a few min. it jumps to 215*.
Slow back down to 55 mph and temp. returns !!!!
Is this normal??????

What a truck:D:D:D:D:D:D
Yes, it is normal. Mine ran from 190-210 for the first week or so. I have heard similar temps from other '05 owners as well. The Dmax has 2 thermostats which explains why the temps can change so quickly. They will settle when you get some miles on it. Mine did anyway....

My 04.5 won't go above about 185 during the cooler weather, unless I am towing a load. Has to be pretty warm out before it will go to 210.

Outside temp will cause fluctuation in engine temp. Over 50 degrees outside mine stays at about 210-215. Colder than that it will run 180 or so at slow speeds but get up to the 210 or so mark when cruising.

I have an 05 with 900 miles and i have NEVER even seen it to operating temp even running 96 mph for five minutes. Highest temp outside like mid sixties. Truck usually hangs out about 170ish at the highest. Happy Holidays:)

Put the winter front on and it will get up there real quick running 96 I have found.

Ditto!!! I've found that @ temps below freezing, the winter front keeps engine temp very consistent at 205 degrees... I think this helps recover some lost fuel economy in cold the weather.

That sounds too low, you may have a tstat sticking. These engines run better at higher temps(205*-210*). You may want to have the dealer check it out. My LLY is pretty consistent with the rest. JJ :)
