: Looking for a diesel truck
InfantryWS6 12-22-2004, 08:54 PM In a few months I want to purchase a new truck. I have looked at all three brands and know all the positives and negatives of each. I really like the Super Duty but don't trust the 6.0, the cummins is a great engine but I don't think the rest of the truck is on par with the other 2. I don't really like the looks of the Chevy or the stance compared to the others.
The truck is what my wife will be using as her daily driver so she has a big say in what it will be. She had decided she wanted a Chevy but the dealer we test drove it at pissed her off and now she says she won't buy a Chevy (I am sure I can talk her out of this). Every vehicle I have owned is a GM and all but my Trans Am has been a Chevy but I can't find a dealer who will drop the price any. I can get a Dodge a 3% below invoice and can probably get a X plan pin from a Ford employee.
Are there any dealers will give invoice pricing on a Duramax? If not I will probably get a Ford or Dodge
TLTBOWEN 12-22-2004, 09:09 PM I found a checy dealer here in Chattanooga that is about 500 above but that is as close as i can get. Ford and Dodge no problem getting it under invoice. PM me if you want the dealer name.
I would like to know of any gm/Chevy dealer that will do invoice -rebates.
NCMIC 12-22-2004, 09:11 PM I would say probably go for one of the 04.5 that are still out their and new. I noticed a $15000 difference in the price and some of them only having 12 miles on them. Dealers are will to deal more with one of them as they want to move them from stock. I have a mechanic that is not biased in any way. He stated that GM is very proud of theirs and it is a good vehicle. Just pricey. He stated that the 6.0 in the Ford's, needs a few years to get it straight. Too many issues. My wife did customer service satisfaction surveys for several Ford dealers, and their was several issues there. Ford has a class action lawsuit with Cat at this time for some of the issues. As for the cummins, great work horse, since they went to the common rail fuel system like the Dmax. The only complaint I have heard of the cummins was no top end power. I enjoy my Dmax and have cranked my torsion bars up to level the truck out. Then I added 285/75/16 Bridgestone Revos and it looks great. All I can say, is do your research from a non-biased mechanic and see what answers you get. Then search the web for ones you can find out there for price matching before going to a dealer. The dealer will normally look for an 05 unless you specify an 04 that is still new. They are in it for the money and will sell anything, whether it is good or bad.
arcticman 12-22-2004, 09:27 PM chevy all the way
maynard9089 12-23-2004, 07:05 AM Why not a GMC? Better looking IMO. I too like the look of the F d's but the Allison is what makes the differance for me.
Slide 12-23-2004, 08:12 AM Interesting. I had the exact opposite problem. First I wanted at true crewcab so that ruled out Dodge, plus thought their interior was a little spartan, although I liked the little hook on the dash for a trashbag. LOL Ford wouldn't budge much on their diesels and Chevy was knocking 8,000 off the price before we even began to start negotiating. I go a brand, new D/A for less than they were asking for the used ones we had been looking at. They didn't offer as much on my trade in as Ford would but they had the overall best deal.
aka108 12-23-2004, 08:31 AM Do not know your location but if you are within X number of miles from N. Florida check out Bruce Glueck Chevrolet and Marine in Jasper, Fl. Look at his web site. Sells at invoice but doesn't like trades and you will probably have to order the vehicle. Good person to deal with.

Look at the GMC. It looks better than the other 3. I just bought one and I love it:ro). I got mine for just over invoice in North Alabama.
aegis 12-23-2004, 09:31 AM I ordered my Durmax and paid 200 over dealer invoice.
InfantryWS6 12-23-2004, 09:48 AM I can travel to pick up the truck and would like to order it so it doesn't matter where the dealer is located.
9W3-HD 12-23-2004, 11:16 AM If you do your homework you can get one ordered right around factory invoice, this is a good place to hang out for info, so your all ready on the right track. I think your on the right track as far as your opinion on brands of truck, all the GM trucks need is a little height and bigger tires. The interior and creature comforts are far superior, the drivetrain and ride are excellent, definity ride better than the other two, and Gm's balljoints are not malfunctioning causing tires to fall off..like one of the other brands. If there is any question about the injectors having problems, well it unlikely it would ever cost you a dime, GM s warrenty on injectors is excellent, so if they ever do need replaced, it will be on the General.
RickDLance 12-23-2004, 11:09 PM Call Marty at Molle Chevrolet 816-229-8800. Tell him Rick Lance in Oak Grove, Mo. told you to call. He will sell to you at or below invoice. Nice people. Also call Cliff Lantz at Hanner Chevrolet 325-854-1133. Should do the same.
socaldieseltech 12-23-2004, 11:36 PM Ford has a class action lawsuit with Cat at this time for some of the issues. .
What does CAT have to do with the 6.0 Ford?
McRat 12-24-2004, 01:04 AM I got mine for $200 over in Irvine California. Randy Thompson at Irvine GMC.
renagade 12-24-2004, 08:48 AM Get on the GMC website and do dealer searches in zip codes not too far from you. Call them and say you are looking for a Dealer that wants to move a unit or order a unit for invoice. I bet if you call 7 one will bite. Its just business sense for the dealer not to miss out . Thats how I bought mine
McRat 12-24-2004, 10:57 AM Buying Tips:
Never talk to a salesman. If you talk to a salesman, the dealer must charge more for the vehicle.
Have the price agreed to BEFORE you show up. Do all negotiations over email or phone.
As a courtesy to your fellow buyers, don't jerk them around. Tell them the truth. If you say you are coming down to buy at the agreed price, do it. If you buy somewhere else, tell them why if they ask.
We have bought 4 vehicles in the last few years over the internet, and all has worked very good. Saved time and money.
InfantryWS6 12-25-2004, 11:36 AM Thanks for the info. I will have to call one of these dealers. If I can get invoice along with the GM Card earnings, military discount, and rebates that would be a great deal
