When you guys are taking in your vehicle to the dealer for possible injector replacement are you describing the symptons you are having and mentioning you think it is the injectors, or are you playing dumb as having the dealer figure out the problem?

I took my truck in for an oil change at the dealer and I told the service guy to tell the tech to check for fuel in the oil.

I walked in and asked how much they would charge me to check the balance rates. Then they asked why i would want to know that. I explained the symptoms and told them i think my injectors are bad. My belief is to be as informed as possible and show them you know what you are talking about. Then they will be less likely to try to take advantage of the situation.

Just tell them what you are experencing, If the req spec's that the special policy demand are not there, you won't be getting new injectors, if you have a issue and the req spec's are there, new injectors will be installed.

i took the service bullitin numbers, and knew the guy at the service counter. they still wouldnt do the injectors. they blamed it on debris and water in the fuel, and gave me a $5600 estimate.

Just took mine in, described the symtoms.....smoke, slow starting, etc........they checked it out, ran my vn# and told me it needed new injectors and that they were covered under warranty. Since then, I received a letter from GM concerning the 7 years or 200,000 mile warranty.

we took dads '04 in this past week, talked to the diesel mechanic they have there and all he asked was if it was smoking at idle, which it was and he said its the injectors. he's done enough of them he knows what the symptoms are. we also had his letter gm sent him about the injectors being under warranty.

I'd find a different dealer. If you're within the warranty it shouldn't be a problem at all. Its a very common problem on the Lb7s

I noticed mine smoking white when I was in gear sitting at a light. So I drove into their little service drive through they have there, put on the park brake, put it in gear and walked to the back of the truck and pointed. I didn't have to say anything, the guy knew what I was there for and knew exactly what needed to be fixed before any conversation even came up. My truck was in the shop for a day and a half and back on the road the second part of the day after I took it in.

i acted like a complete dumbass like i didn't know what was wrong, even though it looked like it didn't with my gauges exhaust and intake on the truck, but the dealer fixed it anyway

My truck was cranking longer than it should, that was the only problem I was having. I just told them that, and got 8 new injectors. I did have to pay for fuel filter and oil change.

I took mine in, told them the symptoms I had, and left. They called me the next day and said my truck was ready to pick up with 8 new injectors installed at no cost to me. Couldn't have been any more pain free. I think I will stick with this dealer!

Mine is at the dealer now. I bought it last Thursday with 137k miles (2003). Monday I had smoke pouring out at idle, hard starts, etc... Had it towed to the dealer, told them I knew it was the injectors and that they are under a special warrantee. I got a call back from them later that day. They told me that it was infact the injectors, but they weren't covering it and gave me a $1200 quote to replace ONE injector. There reason for not covering it was the SES light wasn't on. I had to print out the special policy and take it to them explaining that the light was a POSSIBLE symptom, not a required one. I argued with them for two days because they wouldn't even do a flow test because the stupid SES light wasn't on. I finally got them to do the test, and they callsed me back later that day telling me they DIDN'T do the test, but decided to change the injector anyway. BS! They did the test, found out they were wrong, and are changing 1 injector for me. Talk about a headache.

this is nuts, i know, but my dad drove his around with bad injectors for 11 months (35,000 miles) . The SES light never came on, it wasn't hard to start, no fuel in the crankcase and his mileage was still pretty good. The only thing it did was smoke bad at idle and occasionally idle rough. if i remember right, the letter didn't even include smoking at idle as a symptom and his dealer replaced all eight without any problems. I wouldn't waste my time with a dealer like that, who acts like this is the first one they have ever seen, especially when all of them have this problem.

the reason I ask is because when mine go out on my 2003, I didn't know if it was wise to go in and say "I know its the injectors, here's the documentation, replace them please"; I would think some service departments don't want you telling them how to do their job.

I've learned that most of us don't like to be told how to do our jobs, and I think that most techs and service writers fall into the same category. I usually just tell them the symptoms, and let them do their job. I listen carefully and ask questions to bolster my confidence in the dealer. If my questions are not adequately addressed, I will likely choose to leave. I try to be polite and keep all options open, because circumstances may dictate that that I use their services in the future. Even in a bad shop there are often a few good mechanics that may help.

I"m in Elizabethtown. about 35 miles from Fayetteville. What dealer did you go so I will be sure not to use them when I take mine in. My truck has a terrible fuel smell and poor mileage at this time.

Better check for fuel in the oil, if there is DO NOT drive it to the shop, DO NOT drive it anywhere, have it picked up by tow truck. Driving with fuel in the oil can cause engine damage.

Reid Lallier Chevrolet on Raeford Rd. in Fayetteville. I will never take the truck there again. I will probably take it to another dealer to get a flow test done as soon as I get it back from them since they are only changing out one injector.

I just let it idle at the entrance to the service writer's desk until they can get to me. They ALL know within a few minutes I need injectors

I went in, told them there was about 4 gallons of diesel in my oil.....didn't require much more than that.

First time wasn't sure, so suggested it was the injectors. Second time dead sure, so told them it was making oil and blowing white smoke and to check the injectors. I don't think it's impolite to tell them what you think is wrong, as long as you're nice about it.

When you go to the doctors and tell them you broke your arm, the doctor should be happy that you just didn't say: "Something's wrong with my arm." It saves them the trouble of trying to figure out what it is.

Read here for the fun I had with the second time...

Took mine to the stealer this morning. I have a friend who is the service manager. told him about the strong smell of fuel. He checked the oil and said there was fuel in the oil, that I had injector problems. He said it takes 48hrs. to get them. I told him I did't want just 1 or 2 replaced. If they were gonna work on it ,I wanted 8.

Just a follow up on my truck. Got it back Friday 28th. 8 new injectors all replaced at no cost. Guess I will see how long these last.
