ok i have a autometer dual guage pillar pod. and i have the cobalt gauges boost 35psi up top and pyro 1600 on the bottom. the pyro on the bottom fits tight as hell and the boost gauge fits kinda sloppy. is there anything i can put around it that would make it snug to where it dosnt wanna keep popping out a hair drives me nutz the white part of the back of the gauges showing when i get in and out of the truck.. i tried putting electrical tape around it and sliding it in. but the electrical tape it too thick.. i was thinking about teflon tape and stretching it but that stuff is so thin i think as soon as i push it in it will wod all up.

any suggestions i know i cant be the only one this has happened to???

Didn't the retainers get put on the gauges when installed? They are tight but you can get them in, they usually hold the gauges pretty well.

no i tried to dry fit them on there.. and it wouldnt go all the way down plus the instructions said not to use them... i really dont wanna have to pull the whole thing down again.. will they fit on there. the threads were touching the plastic inside the pillar as it is dont know how i would get a nut on there... any pics?

Why on earth would they sduggest Not using the retainers..???

I have the Autometer pillar, and ISSPRO's with the retainers in place, no problems..

the black things that go on the back... yea my autometer instructions for the pillar pod say these guages will just press firmly in there.. no need for the bracket on the back.. weird i know but i tried to fit them on and no way really to get the thumb screw nuts on there.. ill try again tomorrow but cant figure it out. the thread on the studs (back of gauges) are hitting the inside of the pillar??

Just bend the sides of the pillar out, tighten the brackets and install..:D

Mine don't come close to touching...maybe the 07's are different.???

i like not having the mounts on there for any reason i have to unplug or change something i could just pull it out... but its like wanting to come out 1/8" and the white barley shows. anything i could wrap it to fit snugger without using the brackets

Maybe you could wrap some 1/4" window isulation around the body of the gauge..? It has tape on 1 side, made out of foam, at hardware, and lumber stores.

i dont understand what your saying.. it fits perfect around its just i have to push it in a little to make it go all the way back. and it pops out a little hit a bump or so to say. ill try to take a pic tomorrow and show what im talking about. it stays in there most of the time. just need that little big of snugness to keep her in there. i think imma try to stretch teflon tape around it see whta it does.

Putting the window isulation on there will prevent it from "poping" out, but you still move it if nessesarry, It looks like a gray soft sponge / foam material..go home depot, or lowes ect, and look at it...you'll see what I mean.

Try some blue painters tape, it's plenty thin to gauge thickness and the it's easy to find.
Also with the surface of it it's not as slick as electrical tape. Just a thought...

The gauges always seem to stick out a bit, but I have always used the retainers. They fit tight but they seem to pull the guages in a bit. Here are some pics I took this morning of a customers unit I put together last night, sorry about the quality, but you can see the retainers in behind.

hell mine sticks out exactly that far without the retainer... i might as well not put it on then

they suck to put in. i took all mine out because with them in the pod would deform due to the thickness of the retainer. sucked because i had endure double the cuts on my hand getting the nuts off. but one of mine did not push in completely and i just ran a sharpie over the gauge body to make it black and pushed it in. now i am happy. also how about maybe some rtv sealant. put a dab on the gauge body and push it in to where you want it and let it sit bump free for a couple hours. wont prevent you from taking them out just stop the movement.

Like the sharpie idea, never thought of that....

What about pushing the guages in with the guage pod off the A-pillar and wrapping the guage body a couple of times with tape so it doesn't slide out...same idea as a retainer but should keep the guage in place. Then mount the pod back on the pillar. I never used the retainer in my guage pod but the Autometer guages slide in very snug.

Sharpies are great for covering the white body of the guage.

only problem would be getting the tape down in there.

are you guys using any alternative to mounting your pillar to your stock pillar besides those plastic rivet deals... just wondering i was thinking about some 3m double sided tape

I used the plastic thingys, but now that I think about it, Velcro would work really good, and easy to remove for bulb replacements too...:D

Just wrap some black eletrical tape around the gauge near the gauge trim ring. Don't put too much on or it won't push in. That should hold it and if it does come out a tad bit, at least it will be a nice black instead of the white gauge housing.

May not be the cheapest solution but what about a new guage pod to solve your frustrations once and for all.

I always use the push pins to hold the pod in place, tried the two sided tape idea, but it always comes loose. I haven't had any issues with the pod deforming, at least none that have come back to me.

I just used a little bit of masking tape. Did'nt go all the way around with the tape, just a small piece in 2 or 3 places.

well i took a heat gun and heated up some electrical tape and stretched it around the gauge.. works great. but then i was taking the pod off to drill the hole for the push clips and ill be damn if the stock metal clip on the back of the stock pillar didnt break off... SOB so i took some kitty hair fiberglass and managed to get the clip to stay to the stock pillar... ill be damn if i fix one thing and break another... i barley pulled on the stock pillar and the clip broke. wtf weak ass plastic... anyways the gauge stays in there now... hope the rigging i did holds the stock clip on the pillar now
