I just put in a Tekonsha P3 brake controller. When it rains or snows no trailer hooked up it displays a red warning short to battery. Anyone else come across this. I assume it may be normal, but....... Only does it when its wet outside. Thanks.

You might have a bare wire that water might be geting too, causing a short in the trailer harness. I would not think this is normal, does the owners manual on the P3 say anything like it's normal for it to show a red warning when it is wet outside? I don't have one so I can't say for sure; I think you have a short somewere in the harness or plug. Good luck

It's not normal, it is something to check into.

Could be moisture in the bottom of the plug. The bottom two terminals are brakes and ground which water can short across.

Mine has never done it.

Thanks for the input. I looked in the owners manual but it is very vague. I will try using some silicone paste to seal the connector out back or some good old WD-40. Thanks again.

I agree; most likely moisture getting into the socket. Make sure the cover closes well when not connected to the trailer. Also, make sure the connectors and connector block are clean. If there's dirt on them, and moisture does get in, it will much sooner detect a short than if everything is clean (from past experience ...).

Gotcha. We've been getting alot of rain, ice, and snow lately. Seems like it will never end. Thanks for the help.:D

Moisture can also get in from the back of the plug. I always siliconed the heck out of the back where the wires feed through.

Mine has never done it, and I live in the snow region. Try calling Tekonsha, I had an issue when I first got mine, and they were very good to deal with. Turns out my issue was in my camper, not in the controller.

Cool, I will give them a shout after I try sealing the connector. Thanks.
