Hello,

I have a 2004 2500HD 4X4 and I am going to need new tires soon. I want to keep the stock rims and I am considering 255/85R16 BFG Mud Terrains. Will they clear on my truck?

Thanks!

W/O any trimming, moving a bumper or T Bar cranking? What's the added height due to the speedo/computer stuff?
TIA

Those 255's fit the rim and the wheelwell better then the 285. Only trade off is a narrow tread width.

TIAYes, put on stock wheels and go.
The 285s on stock wheels don't need much done but some trucks have minor variations in assembly.
Only thing that may need is to tie back the inner fender @ the emergency brake cable and where the windshield washer reservoir is.
The narrow 255 has plenty of room.
They are 33.3" high, so a little higher than the 285/75 tires.
7.5% larger than stock.

I changed to BFG 285-75-16 T/A KO on the stock wheels. They fit, only very minor rub on the front.

I'm running Dunlop Mud Rover 255/85/16 and have no problems. Very minor rubbing on the e-brake cable/fender when new. I have about 4-5 cranks on the torsion bars.

255/85-16
33" Tall
10" Wide

Mm To Inch Divide By 25.4

255= Width In Mm (255/25.4= 10.039")
85= Sidewall Height In % Of Width (255 X .85 = 216.75mm Or 8.533" )
Over All Height 8.533 X 2 + 16 = 33.066" Tall

Will Fit No Problem.

I had the 255/85R16 BFG Mud Terrains on my 2001 2500HD and put about 35000 miles on them.
This size is perfect for this truck, IMHO.
Loved them when I was off road, but found them noisy and having poor traction when on pavement.

I'm running Michelin XPS Traction tires now in 235/85R16 size. These are not quite as good off road as the Mud Terrains, but way better on pavement in all respects.
