Where is the fuse for the engine block heater circuit ?

What fuse? IIRC, it's a power cord and a block installed element. The cord has a threaded nut holding it to the element.

Yeah, it's not integrated with the 12 volt system. It's a 120v element. I'm not sure it has a fuse, but if it does, it's in the heating element housing where it attaches to the truck.

Ok thanks, I asked because the other night I plugged it in and I thought I saw (and heard) a spark from the wire sticking out from the grill. I haven't used it much but just checking to be sure so when its really cold it'll work.

Is there anyway to "test" it ?

Thanks again,
Scott

It should be fused at the source. Meaning if you plug it into your house and it shorts the breaker in the house for that circuit should trip.

The sound of a spark when plugging in tells you it is working. IIRC, it is a 1500w element.

Hi Scott,

I have a gadget called "plug alive" (see my garage for pic) that you plug in between the house current and block heater plug to check continuity. Idiot lights tell me quickly if the block heater is good or not. It's made in Edmonton. You can check your local auto parts store to see if they have anything similar.

Alternatively, plug in your block heater and listen for a crackling/popping sound coming fromt he engine block which is the element heating up the coolant.

Or, see if your truck has heat when you start it, or if it's really cold, heat after 5km of driving:D.
