I think it will be a good motor. It's a segment that GM needs to get into.

and how much is isuzu involved with this one
None. GM has said that they built this one on their own.

i think this motor is exactly what is needed in the 1/2 ton truck and suv market.

Come on now. It's a GM product, not Furd that is still searching for a "good" motor. I personally can't wait. If it's solid after any initial growing pains I want one for a daily driver.

Assuming it comes out in 09 and assuming they don't have tons of problems, or at least have the problems worked out by 2010 I'm totally on board to buy one. I really want a diesel, specially one that is putting out the numbers this one is, but I don't need a 3/4. IMO it's just to much truck to use as a DD and if you aren't using it on a regular basis for it's intended use. Intake, exhaust and a flash and you could be putting out 600 lb-ft and around 350 hp and get around 30 MPG's!

2009 would be sweeeet, but from what everyone is sayin, it won't hit the dealership until 2010 with all the emissions ready for the next phase. If they come out in 09, they would have to change for the 2010 unless it was already compliant. Although if it was an 09, it would be able to be modified without having to comply with 2010 regulations (did that make sense).
Can't wait

Made sense to me. :)

My schedule has me looking for a 3/4 or 1 ton Express in the '10 or '11 time frame to convert into and RV as my retirement vehicle. But if this comes out in the '09 MY without urea and other addons needed for the '10 regulations, I'd buy early. I'm only hoping this engine makes it into the heavier Express instead of the de-tuned 6.6L Duramax they shoehorn in there now.

Makes total sense. IMHO, the one released in 09 will be 2010 compliant.

Thats what I hope and is my plan also. I will order one of the first trucks off the line in there 2nd year. Since I hope to keep it for a while I will let some others who don't keep theres that long work out the bugs.

The vans are always the last to get newer technology, so it won't be among the first to get the new smaller diesel.

As an example, the Duramax wasn't offered in vans until 2006, many years after the HD pickups. Vans still don't have the new 6L90 6-speed auto yet, and last time I checked, there had been no announcement as to when they would (maybe next year?).

One other problem is, the 6.6L diesel is not a very popular option in the current 3500 vans.

I think part of the problem is the extreme detuning of the 6.6L diesel makes it not that attractive. Hopefully when they finally do offer the stronger 6L90 tranny in the vans, we'll see an increase to around 310hp / 530ft-lb.

Sure!!!! Burst my bubble! :)

The de-tuning of the 6.6L is the main reason I'm hoping this engine shows up in the 2500 and 3500 vans. It actually has more power than the current Duramax offered in vans. As to the DMax popularity in vans, I think the engine noise is another deterrent. After all, it is sitting right beside you with just a plastic cover and some insulation between you and it.

I'm not holding my breath for '09 and I'm only hoping for '10-'11. But IMHO it would sure be a logical engine choice instead of the 6.6L. And if Dodge/Mercedes increase availibility of the Sprinter in the US (and build up a better service network), GM is going to have to do something to keep up.

I agree with you. I hope GM does not take too long to put the little max in the vans, they will give the sprinter a run for the money.
