Well getle man the fun already starts for me. Just got my dmax 8 days ago after waiting since august 15th when i ordered. I have a whopping 924 miles and it would not start after it was warm. here are the details....

it was -2 f yesterday. it did start no trouble but made some noise. but normal cold weather diesel sounds (yes changing to 5w40 but wanted to at least get 1000 miles before change). warm it up for about an hour, as i went to get ready for a funeral and wanted the truck warm. get the the funeral house and park. ride in it was between 180 and 200 degrees emgine temp. all ran well. the funeral director wanted to allign cars and asked for keys. I gave him mine and said it is a diesel but is warm so it runs like a car. so all went well, we put the casket in the limo (??) and proceeded to go to our cars. got in mine and the key was in the ignition but was not pushed all the way in so ignition was not on. So i push key in and it cranks. does not start. ok, pull out key wait 5 seconds (f#rd did this) placed in and turned key. cranks great no start. 5 more times - no start. jumped in another car to finish the funeral.

So i fiqure that what ever will reset will after a catholic mass, service, and reception....... it did not. got back to truck no start. hit the onstar button finally. it killed me to do that....-:t they come on get my info finally get to roadside assistance. they tell me to put key in ignition turn on but do not start. leave it for 10 minutes then turn key to start with out turning off. said ok set my watch stopwatch and waited. parents came along to "help" me out. my dad who was very vocal that i not get a diesel had a little smile that only a parent can give. we all know that smile. try to start after 10 mintes nothing, it cranks but no fire. So hit the onstar button again and roadside assisatance says 45 minutes. My dad leaves to go back to work. so it is 10 degrees out for the record and a cold car.....and i am wearing a clown suit (black suit) for the funeral with dress shoes. My feet were icicles. So I wait. 45 minutes goes by my cell phone rings get the automated your roadside assistance should be there. push 1 for no they are not their transfering, phone gets dropped. being a nice guy it was a cold day so others were have trouble so I wait for 1hour 20 minites. it the button again "I am FREEZING and you hung up on me" the road side asssiance is not here help. So they transfer me to road side asssistance. No I gotta give the operator credit for here honesty. she said "I have contacted the towing company and they forgot about you....." So i politely said thank you but can you please get someone here now!!!! a different tow company shows up (the good one) and takes it from there. Now in the mean time I was told by onstar that I should call the dealer and let them know it is coming in. so i do and they said they were supposed to. get there after my mom picks me up (thank god for holidays and family) and we go to run a few errands as my whole day is now shot and I do have holiday stuff to do. So when i get to the dealer they have no idea that an car from onstar got towed in or that my car was after I called them to tell them and onstar was supposed to..... it is 4.32 pm and my first call to onstar was 1:05 pm breakdown point and dealer 3 miles.. So at this time of the night there are no loaner cars.....the tech not service advisor.. who wiped his hands clean was trying with no help to get me a loaner when he found out the milage..... great guy i know i am in good hands ... dealership manager gives me his car when he hears the store.. great guy...

here i am missed a day of snomobiling before the holidays for my new truck.

So what is the problem any ideas. there we no water indicator no check engine light etc. so help not very happy

One of the first things that I try in a no start situation is pumping the fuel filter primer up til it gets hard. Never know, could have an air leak somewhere...

Ditto what John said. I make a point of telling everyone to try that before doing anything else. Later! Frank

well i got my truck back. at first the thought was injectors.... i just shook my head and said i do not think so. they tried to start outside still cool 15 degrees so they rolled the truck in a bay let it sit for 2 hours walked out turned the key and it started. so the plugged in the computer. all systems are good no codes. so i started asking the normal questions. why what how, etc. so finally i get to the medium duty manager and he extralins that he gas tank has a cup in it so the fuel pick up always has fuelwhen at low levels from slooshing around. often times if you get water it will reside right there as water is heavier than diesel. so this cold snap was enough to freeze the water. when i got the truck going before the no start and the outside temp came up it must have been just warm enough the thaw the water chunk enough and it got sucked up in the fuel pick up starving the fuel pump. so here is the funny part. I said alright so i al pretty sure i know where the water came from. both dealer manager and service manager looked puzzled. When my truck came from the factory I know there was only 8 gallons of fuel. I was with the manager when we got it out of the line from delivery and persoanlly drove with him for it first fillup. it took just over 18 gallons. I also know according to howard when my truck was put in the transfer station fromn the train awaiting truck transport. It just so happens that there was a major snow storm in boston right after thanksgiving. I assume that with diesel natural water content, low fuel tank, cold weather, and snow while it sat for over 1 week at transfer, there was enough water pulled in to the tank that sooner or later this was going to happen.

So moral of the story it is running and back home. I will put a small amount of additives every other tank to "dispurse" any water that may form. I also am an avid filler upper so i know it could not be from my fuel source as a commercial fleet runs from my fuel source and gets a delivery every other day. I hope others who get winter deliveries do not have this ame problem. I also secretly hope that this is infact the only problem as i was lucky to be in town when it happened unlike where i was supposed to be 12 hours later.....north maine woods.

Kennedy and Frank- yep you would have been right with the primer. if i had of given that baby a couple of pumps I probably could have gotten it started. MAJOR lesson learned. if in a no start ever again i will make sure i prime that sucker.... i also would have known fuel when the primer would have pushed soft not hard. see what happens when you were a tie, it chokes your blood from the brain. I hate suits!!!
