Last week before going on a trip I decided to check my oil and noticed it would barely register on the dip stick. I put a full quart in it and it brought it up right to the middle between add and full, where I usually like to keep it. I normally don't check oil too often since I've never had any problems on any of my vehicles, so I'm not sure how long I've been driving like that. My guess is quiet some time since it's been a while since I changed the oil. The question is, will driving with a quart low hurt anything?
No, no issue at all. Don't make it a habit mind you...lol...

As far as lubricating, no problem. As far as heat, you wouldn't have as much oil in the system to help keep oil temp down so it might run a little warmer if your working the engine. (Towing)

Agreed...Our D-Max takes 10qts to fill so a quart won't hurt much but not good to do alot

so how far do you have to go until the LOW ENGINE OIL light comes on? Ive noticed when changing the oil that there is a sensor near the bottom of the pan...is that the low engine oil sensor, cuz if that is that is REALLY low??

That was my other question. One of the reasons I never checked is because on my 2000 suburban I once got a low engine oil in DIC and it was only 1/2 quart low. Do our trucks even have that?

From the looks at the diagrams at AllData, it is fairly close to the bottom of the pan... mind you, when the engine is running, there should not be a whole lot of oil in the pan, I would hope it is busy making it's rounds through the engine :)
