: vs a v8 furd gaser, how would i do?
chevy_9465 12-21-2004, 11:49 PM got to messin around the other nite racin one of my buddys(chevy 350) in the school parkin lot, he took a head start and i still almost beat him, so now everybody is wantin a piece, im not plannin on makin racin a habbit but theres one guy with a furd f-150 probably a '00 or newer, 2wd ext cab step side, lol):h its a pretty nice truck but he takes a lot of crap over it cause it kinda looks like a truck a girl would drive, but he thinks its bad. anyways, he just had a $400 superchip installed and hes wantin to race after hearin bout the other nite, could i take him or should i wait until my chip and resistor gets installed? next time i race itll be in 4wd, would have beat the 350 even with his headstart if the truck hadnt got sideways on takeoff:ro)
pfloydncsu 12-22-2004, 09:23 AM have fun cleanin up the rods off the pavement if you keep that up. the 2wd gasser with a 350 should have ate your lunch. i wouldnt toy with a chipped 2wd truck(even if it is ford), it will embarrass the bowtie. if you want something your truck will win, hook up to a chain in 4wl and you will drag their trucks all over hells half acre, but you will eventually spit the cvs out of the front end
bowtie 12-22-2004, 09:28 AM And you NEVER want to embarrass the BOWTIE. Always pick the figths you can win (or think you should win). Now it if was my friend with the chipped truck then would try anything cause friends don't tell stories.
Turbine Doc 12-22-2004, 09:43 AM My 4.3L V-6 GMC C-1500 chipped & some other stuff will wax your & my 6.5 anyday; don't let it go to your head, if you came close to that 350, it was having a bad day especially since you are pretty much stock. Diesels really aren't hotrod machines, they can be made to perform but that costs $$$ and life, if you want to race get a gasser, if you want to tow or pull stumps use the Diesel. I'll give you an analogy of horsepower; Quarter horse & Clydesdale both are 1Hp which one would you want to race and which to do work; same concept holds with gassers and Diesels.
w_huisman 12-22-2004, 10:30 AM The difference between gassers and diesels is the same as the difference between sprinters and weight lifters.
One is fast, the other is strong.
The weight lifter won't outrun the sprinter, and the sprinter sure as heck can't out-muscle the weight lifter.

EH??? Quarter horse & Clydesdale both are 1Hp
This is where horsepower came from.
The typical horse, attached to a mill that grinded corn or cut wood, walked a 24 foot diameter (about 75.4 feet circumference) circle. Watt calculated that the horse pulled with a force of 180 pounds, although how he came up with the figure is not known. Watt observed that a horse typically made 144 trips around the circle in an hour, or about 2.4 per minute. This meant that the horse traveled at a speed of 180.96 feet per minute. Watt rounded off the speed to 181 feet per minute and multiplied that by the 180 pounds of force the horse pulled (181 x 180) and came up with 32,580 ft.-lbs./minute. That was rounded off to 33,000 ft.-lbs./minute, the figure we use today.
Yes - those are horses but they are not 1HP - HP is time and distance, more time or less distance less horse power - less time, more distance more horse power.
I would like to get into the drag racing and diesel thing but there are people on this forum that could address this much better than I
SORRY about the
steiner43511 02-03-2005, 07:47 PM now if you were runnin a chipped out dmax or cummins, you would kill him. but that 2wd would walk all over you even if it is a ford.
bowtie65 02-03-2005, 10:45 PM never ever ever for nothing or no one or self pride ever embarass the bowtie especially in front of the enemy the dreaded ford fanatics. what are you thinking i hope not many read your post. keep pullin stumps and the 2wd fords out of the mud and someday they will look up to you like the 2 bozo's on that dodge commercial- you know best friends-hot girls hot tub in bed of truck. you see where i am going with this.diesels and drag racing dont mix!
Turbine Doc 02-03-2005, 11:49 PM I saw one of them hopped up Diesel dragster types at a dyno meet in Dallas (Cummins), he laid wicked rubber, & gobs of smoke I was impressed until I heard he rebuilds every season. Speed costs, gotta pay to play, if go fast is what you are after build a gasser, those engines are priced to be nearly disposable, plus lots more low buck stuff available to make them go fast, the chip for my gasser was $70 IIRC.
Dave 2001 02-04-2005, 12:14 PM Even though I love my 6.5 I know it's no speed deman. My wifes 04 sunfire can blow me away. Hell, my wife's sunfire can blow the D'max, cummings and PS away, so there is no way our 6.5 will stand a chance.
chevy_9465 02-04-2005, 10:15 PM seems like since i made this post over a month ago iv grown up a little more and am not really worried about if itll go fast or not, seems kinda stupid now, although i did beat a stock cummins a few weeks ago,( and i know if we were pullin hed probably yank my bed off) p.s. id say a new dmax, pstroke or cummins with a edge box would probably blow the sunfires doors off
Turbine Doc 02-06-2005, 02:41 PM Hey 9465 here is some stuff I can back your I beat a Cummins up claim with, I out powered one also; I was feeling a LOT outgunned until he showed up in stock form, now I don't feel as bad as I did earlier in the day truck after truck whomping up on me. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23673
