How many miles do you guys put on before an oil change?? 5000 too many?

I went to 3000 before the first change, after that my changes are dictated by the DIC. Call me lazy, but I wouldn't think that GM would put that on there if it was a bad thing. 2500 miles on this oil and have 70% life left.

We do 10,000 with synthetic oil. Have on all 5 trucks.

First one at 2K, second at 5K and will do 5K changes from here on out. 15W40 Rotella March - November, 5W40 synthetic Rotella December - February.

After my first change at 2,200 miles I used 5k as the change interval. UOA reports were all good at 5k. Last Summer I extended to 8,400. That analysis was also good. At that change I installed an OilGuard bypass filter and will send a sample in at 10k miles. Depending on that report I will either change or keep going.

Change my oil and filter every 5000 and use synthentics. Also change the Ali spin on then as well.

I change mine every year. I never get over the 5k or DIC oil change indicator in that time.

+1

FWIW my DIC will go to 12k before telling me to change the oil. I do not use the DIC on my truck.

I did my first change at 2500 my next at 10k and every 10k from there on out. I also use Delvac 1 syn and a Wix filter.

Changed mine at 85, 325, and at 950 I did the filter. I'm now just across 2k, and will do it again shortly. Once my silicon comes down, I'll go to around 5k-8k and switch to Delvac 1...

I do not use the DIC either and change oil on all my vehicles at 3000 intervals even with synthetic, Mobil 1 . 2002 Avalanche, 2003 2500 Suburban and will probably do the same in my 2005 2500HD Duramax.

Call me crazy but i change mine every 10K according to the service manual. I have over 58000 with no problems. The DIC has told me around 10,500 miles at one time. I use my truck for my business and place nothing but highway miles on it. I purchased my 04.5 at the end of March 2004, therefor you see where all my miles are. I think the earlier changes won't hurt it but I am just going by the recommendations from GM.

I do 8k mile oil change intervals on dino during warm weather, & 10k mile intervals on synthetic during the winter. Oil analysis always says I could go longer on either. Mobil 1 5w-40 & a M1-303 filter in the truck right now.

$40-$50k truck, I like JK's method of changing often during first 5k miles, oil analysis is a plus. I noticed the LLY ran much better after the first oil change at 1100 miles. Don't skimp on the lubrication guys! JJ :)

Per dmaxalliTech's suggestion:) I changed mine at 500, 1500, and then 3000 all dino. Then at 5000 I went to Schaeffer's Syn-Blend. I will continue to change every 5000.
SURE IS GREAT TO LIVE ONLY 18 MILES FROM dmaxalliTech (ERIC).

I did the early breakin changes at 500, 1500, 3000, 5000 and every 5000 for the rest of the first year. I installed an Amsoil dual remote and now change oil every 7,500, full flow cartridge on every change and the bypass cartridge on every other change.
