I have been looking into buying a d max recently, and have a couple tranny questions. I know that the allison's are known for not holding up to more power, and that there is a whole bunch of kits out there to upgrade the trans. So my first question is what kind of power can you safely put to the allison before upgrading? With moderate modifications (mild tuner, exhaust, and intake) what type of kit would i need to upgrade the allison? Finally would i be better off trying to get my hands on a manual?
Thanks for the help.

First off we need to know what kind of truck you have but 70-100hp is about all a stock allison can take.

for the DIYer sc3 is ~2300 bucks
a south bend clutch or mac cltuch runs ~2200-2300
that will handle ~500 which is the max for the STOCK turbo.
if you plan on going more than that you are looking at studs, rods, bigger turbo, 2xcp3, basicly an engine build

IMO yes!! wish i had one. Just put a very good clutch in it and it will hold what ever you put to it (as far as i have seen).

The Q56 or the NV5600 on the cummins are far stronger than the ZF-6 on the duramax or powerstroke. Another words, if for a duramax, the allison is your best choice.
