: Friday Truck
towin43 12-21-2004, 11:48 AM Over the weekend I took a 700 mile round trip in the Dmax. During the trip, the following gremlins appeared:
1. When I turn the left turn signal on, both turn signals come on (like hazard lights).
2. When I turn the fan speed to 3 or above, a chirping noise emits from behind the dash.
3. A nasty rattle (high-pitched metallic ringing) appears occasionally from inside the driver's door.
Another problem the truck has had since day one is the driver's door has to be slammed in order for it to shut. Anything short of slamming it the door will only partially latch. When it does latch, the dash squeaks like hell.
I looked at the build date and my truck was built on Friday, 6/4/2004. I think a few folks had happy hour on their mind that day!! ):h

Dmax Tim 12-21-2004, 01:50 PM towin, where u tow in anything?
Could be problem in trailer back feeding the truck turn signals.
Get the door adjusted at the dealer.
Other problems I can't help on other than talk to dealer.

No, not towing anything. It actually corrects itself if you turn the steering wheel about 45 degrees to the left. I know it needs to go to the dealer to have these minor problems addressed, I just found it funny that they all showed up on a truck built on a Friday (like the old saying goes about Monday/Friday trucks). ;)
akdiesel 12-21-2004, 06:55 PM Do you have an alarm or an auto start? There have been some issues with installers cutting corners in the sterring collums and the wires are supposadly short all ready. This could also be the problem that you have a pinched wire that is grounding out and causing a short.
As for the door. It sounds like you or someone else has driven the truck with the door not fully latched and taken on some rough roads. This puts alot of wear on the door pins and causes them to sag and not track properly. Or it could be the vents in the back of the truck cab between the bed. Like mentioned erlier if these are blocked then the cab pressure is built up to the point that when the door is almost shut the air has no where to go.
The rattle in the door could be from something that has come loose from all of the hard door slamming that you have done or a bad speaker.
And for the fan noise it sounds like the bearings are going out on your fan or if it only happens when the truck has been sitting outside and it is cold out untill the cab warms up a little bit this is normal.
I hope this helps you out. It does sound like the world is falling down on you but I am sure these problems are mostly connected to each other.

Maybe your vents (in back of cab) are installed backward? Heard of this problem, before. Won't open to allow presuure to equalize.
Reineke 12-21-2004, 07:41 PM That is the reason I am glad mine was built on Wednesday!
gslam88 12-21-2004, 08:27 PM 2. When I turn the fan speed to 3 or above, a chirping noise emits from behind the dash.
This sound like either could be foreign debris (leaves, twigs, whatever) or it could be the bearing starting to go... listen closely to lower setting and see if the noise is there very lightly...

Hay max how would I tell if they are in backwards, I would love to fix the darn thing

No auto start or alarm. No rough roads driven. The door has not shut properly since day one. You can feel it hit the striker and lift up before it latches. It has a very different feel than the passenger door which latches smoothly and easily. Sorry, I should have stated in my original post that this was just a "kicks and giggles, chits and grins" post. :D None of these problems have me concered. I was pointing out all the issues that had cropped up to the dude that was traveling with me and he mentioned the truck must have been built on a Monday or Friday. Sure enough, a check of the build date showed the truck was indeed built on a Friday...adding credence to the myth. ;)

Thats a good question. I can only guess you have to go behind the (ah heck, didn't read the cab confiuration) seat (regualr cab) or behind the back seat (club and crew) and take the plastic panel off. There are two vents ( I believe I have read) The FLAPS should be on the OUTSIDE of truck. If they are on the inside, they have been installed backwards.
If truck is under bumber to bumper warranty, make it a dealer problem.
P.S. Don't recall if you said ALL doors do this? If just one door does, its a fit and finish thing. Anyone one else can chime in with more solid info on this, if they have it.
Lennart 12-22-2004, 05:54 PM This is kind of funny...when there is a car with problems like you describe we speak of a monday car!!! Seems to be dependant on where the vehicle was built....so make sure your next BMW was not built on a monday.
towin43 12-23-2004, 10:03 AM The hits keep coming...
The high here yesterday in beautiful -:tcentral Illinois was a blistering 14. Upon starting the truck after work, the entire dash rattled for several minutes due to the motor vibration. It went away when the interior warmed up. Did the same thing again this morning (8 ball-sweatin' degrees this morning). Now I'm thinking they started the truck on a Monday and waited until Friday to finish it! :D :D :D One of the FEW things I like about getting older (just turned 40) is that these things don't worry or bother me anymore. When I was younger, I would have been all bent out of shape about these problems. Nowadays, it just doesn't matter much. Make a list, take it in and get 'em taken care of.
